Green Man 2024

Don’t think this is very good if I’m honest. Think the section below the headliners is pretty naff apart from Julia Holter.

just adding the Festival tag, to make this thread easier to find

What’s up with all the John Flynns?

It’s a very odd line-up, isn’t it, some great stuff three or four layers down but there’s none of the big eyecatching headliner that GM usually pull out and it does feel like there’s a big name or two to come, especially as BCNR have had a huge move up without doing anything (I assume new music is coming in that case), and this in a year when EOTR’s (assumed) Garden headliners could have easily been its actual headliners without anyone batting an eyelid.

The undercard looks ridiculously strong to me, it’s not quite EotR but it’s not far off.

Why do people compare Green Man and EOTR like they’re rival football teams? You’re allowed to go to both :grinning:

Problem is, almost every year, I’d only really want to go to one of them. If they didn’t reliably alternate their line ups between being strong and average, I’d be with you.

Called this one being not great as soon as EOTR dropped theirs and it was so strong. There are only so many woolly indie bands to go around, and they don’t book the same ones, so they kind of are in competition.

With you on when people seem to be fanboys of one or the other though

maybe if you’ve got wads of cash to spare. But when you’ve bought a ticket on the strength of past experience and get let down when the lineup comes out thats harder to take. Well aware you’re taking a gamble there though

Two weeks apart, aimed at pretty much the same clientele, often interchangeable in scope of top end, always sell out - though it does feel weird (Welsh USP and term times aside) that post-Covid GM has sold out in hours whilst EOTR still takes until about July.

They’re just too close. Pretty much the same festival within two weeks of each other.

Throw in the fact that my other fav UK festival is Arctangent, on the same weekend as Green Man, and it’s really annoying.

I just wish Green Man kicked off the season instead.

Headliners aside, I am surprised this line up is as strong as it is given EOTR. Thought they had hoovered up all the relevant bands

Think you’re confusing with First Aid Kit :slightly_smiling_face:

Just a bit of fun, innit. Apart from a few people online (and I don’t think that’s anyone here ever) I don’t think anyone’s actually taking the ‘rivalry’ seriously or anything.

And while you could go to both, and I’m always a bit surprised by the number of people who do, they’re picking from the same roster of acts which they don’t share, and are about a fortnight apart at completely different ends of the country. I don’t think it’s surprising people are likely gonna have to choose between them and compare the two as a result.

It’s a shame they didn’t book O’Flynn too and put them on the poster next to John for extra confusion.

Nah, proper west side story style gang fights in the fields south Gloucestershire over which festival has the best Americana tinged indie pop undercard.

The popularity of Sleafood Mods (and they are popular) continues to baffle me but obviously happy to sit that one out. Take them out of the equation and it already looks a lot better imo. Plus it’s the first announcement and if past years are anything to go by, there will be another headliner in the coming months.

Saying that, already loads I’m be very happy to watch. Having missed Ezra Collective, Nabiah Iqbal and BCNR on their last jaunts, will be great to see them.

Yeah that would be fine. Just find it funny that each year the same people feel obliged to inform the thread that it’s a weak line up and they’ll be going to EOTR instead. Ok mate, thanks for letting us know. Same time next year

Happens both ways, again I don’t think it’s a big deal it’s just a natural comparison from music fans on a music forum. I’ve also compared them when GM’s had the better lineup too.
