How do you organise your clothes?

top draw: underwear
middle draw: tshirts, jumpers
bottom draw: stuff that either doesn’t fit anymore or is out of season

rail: shirts, jeans, trousers

weird shelf thing top: sport type tshirts & shorts
weird shelf thing middle: any type of bottoms and hooded stuff I wouldn’t wear outside
weird shelf thing bottom: miscellaneous

not sure i’ve got it right tbh

1 drawer for pants and socks. use a divider to separate running socks.
1 drawer with sports stuff

1 rail of t shirts/hoodies
1 shelf for pyjamas/jumpers
2 shelves of footwear
box with walking clothes in a drybag/compression sack

1 rail of coats/jackets

dreadfully

we have a fucking massive quadrouple wardrobe in our bedroom and already my bit needs massive rearrangement:

one side dresses/tunics and dungarees (rarely wear a dress or tunic so these probably need to go elsewhere)
one side t-shirts/jumpers/fleeces/hoodies/trousers etc
stuff with another wear in then gets popped at the bottom bit of this wardrobe
then i have one tray thing with shoes (again i don’t ever wear any of these cos the oens i do wear are either in the porch or garage)
drawers with leggings (never worn)
another with random stuff like scarves, and another with pyjamas
loads with cycling / exercise clothing just randomly stuffed in about three different drawers (plus cycling caps and socks)
bedside table has one drawer for pants, another for socks but these are both absolutely chokka block despite only wearing about 5 different pairs of each, the rest are never ever touched

basically it needs re-organising and i need to get rid of the stuff i never wear but i can’t fucking be bothered

Small chest of drawers:

Top shelf: 15 pairs plain black socks
Middle shelf: 15 pairs plain black boxers
Bottom shelf: misc (belts, cuff links etc)

Wardrobe:

Smart Suit (weddings etc)
Less smart jackets and formal trousers (teaching)
Shirts (organised as follows plain white/plain coloured/striped/patterned/checked)

Wardrobe drawers:

Lycra (shorts then jerseys (heaviest towards the back and lightest at the front) then socks, buffs etc)

T shirts (white shirts, misc colours, black shirts (once worn they go to the back so the ones nearest the front are the ones worn longest ago)

Jumpers (heavy, light, cardigans separate)

My wife also has a wardrobe but her actual wearing clothes are in a massive pile on or around her chair.

I want a rail for tshirts because I don’t like folding them because I’m a child

I’m really quite particular about how my clothes are organised.

  1. Underwear and socks in seperate storage boxes on a shelf in a built in wardrobe.
  2. Knitwear folded in a shelf in wardrobe.
  3. Tshirts folded on a shelf in wardrobe.
  4. Jeans/ cords/ chinos folded on a shelf in wardrobe
  5. Shirts, polo shirts, sweaters, blazers and smart trousers hung in a wardrobe - these are organised by colour and also grouped by clothing type.

Important point, all these clothes are ironed and ready to wear, clean but unironed clothes go at the end of the rail so they aren’t mixed in before I iron them.

Sport based clothing has its own stack on the shelf (running, yoga, climbing and dancing).

Seasonal clothing is rotated, so for 6 months shorts live in a plastic box and come out in the summer at the same time hats, scarfs gloves and big winter jackets go away.

Shoes/ trainers all live on shelves in the under stairs cupboard.

Coats all on pegs in the understairs cupboard.

Tops on top
Bottoms on bottom

But seriously, they stay on the drying rack until there’s no space then they get moved to a pile / piles in the floor, then periodically i have a meltdown about how hard it is to find clothes in the morning and put them on the hangers. Then the cycle starts again

Save it for Thursday

Pile

Very poorly. I have some space for hanging, and some shelves, and most of my clothes are stuffed on the shelves no matter how much I try to organise. I probably need to buy some drawers for the shelves tbh
