Last time i went through most of what i could find of his, i seem to remember thinking The Tuss was one of my favourite things he’s done. Keep getting annoyed when i can’t find it on Spotify.
Almost impossible to choose a track, and that’s such a limited selection anyway! Avril was my favourite piece of music for years and maybe still is, but it’s so un-Aphex that I don’t feel I can choose it. Girl Boy Song is just a head rush of a song and shows off his beautiful melodic side and insane percussion programming as well as any track
Also obvious 5/5, one of the few people on the list who actually deserves the genius tag. No idea how his mind works, no idea how half of his songs work, but it’s all endlessly fascinating, gorgeous, challenging and other-worldly.
Not going to Manchester might end up haunting me, so I really really hope he does more solo shows in the next 3-5 years. He needs to be on my bucket list
Also, there aren’t many artists whose ‘range’ is quite as broad as his. Two of his most well-known recordings - Come To Daddy and Avril 14th - are poles apart.
