from the entire board?
yeah
there are more important things than music and also more important things than your opinion of me.
If I had said “classic rock is misogynistic” I doubt I’d get much disagreement from anybody, I’m sure big fans could find counter examples but the narrative is accepted that rock star posturing is toxic
this is nice
Never got on with them really. Obviously deserve massive respect for Kill ‘em All and for being pioneers of Bay Area thrash, but have never understood why they were considered the absolute epitome of metal, even at their peak in the early-mid ’80s, when there were so many better bands. Should 100% have split up after Cliff Burton was killed – their music nosedived after Master of Puppets and they were never the same band again.
Very solid 3.5/5 for their first three albums, but lose a point for all the shite that came after. Bonus point for Some Kind of Monster, but lose a point because Lars Ulrich. Willing to bump them up to a 3 for LULU.
It’s not arse wank, these bands have huge platforms and totally normalise dubious, unpleasant views by either espousing them themselves or remaining silent (“keep politics out of music etc etc”). The “anti-PC” thread that runs through the metal/hard rock scene (in my general experience) is one of the less pleasant things about it. In one way it’s not really a big deal if a handful of people in bands have dodgy views, but because this gets mirrored and validated all the way down, particularly with younger fans it is good and right to point this out and I say this as someone who grew up on Metallica, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Guns N Roses, Pantera and the like.
anyway, I really do have to bloody work now
I like lars. he’s a prick obviously but I dunno, I just really like the little scamp for some reason

I was at that! Very strongly remember them being late, meant I could have seen all of Killing Joke and still got back before they started. They were amazing though.
fair enough, I will refine to 80s metal, thrash metal & black/death metal then.
Another thing that sits poorly with me is the whole white people having their liberty oppressed by the government aspect of it
‘Classic rock’ refers to a very specific era and fairly short list of bands. Everyone knows who you mean there. ‘Metal’ is a much more nebulous term that covers everything up to stuff being released today. Can you not see how tarring every kid playing a few riffs with his/her mates with the same brush you’re tarring some millionaires who haven’t released a relevant record in three decades between them is a bit unfair?
Fwiw my opinion of you is still pretty positive you just drive me mental when you make these grand proclamations from a position of little knowledge or experience in an area and then defend it to the hilt.
runs into thread
I heard there was discussion about Britpop?
Reckon they could challenge Queen at the very bottom of the list.
also moshing, what a cuntish thing to do. Thanks for that too metal
