Just counted up my instagram gig posts for 2022 and it came to 54.
One was a night spread out over multiple venues and I spent time in two of them, maybe that counts as 55.
Went to a few comedy gigs too but don’t take pictures of those so not sure how many off the top of my head. Can think of 4 for definite. So we’re on 59 maybe?
Think I missed at least 3 gigs I would have gone to when I had to move home for house renovations for a few weeks in the summer, and I also had tickets to a couple of things that got cancelled, or got rescheduled and then clashed with something else.
So could have made it to mid 60s. Reckon another 20 on top of the that would be easily enough done.
Last did year did feel more stacked than usual though, 3 years worth of gigs all happening at once.

Got a lot of respect for this guy seeing an available record and claiming it, when he must be in full knowledge that there’s no way that’s a world record.
There is fruit just hanging from trees in the world, and Monroe Township, New Jersey man is taking it.

This is because
- a lack of bands that both Mrs CCB and I like enough to be arsed to go and see, bearing in mind
- arranging a babysitter
- travelling to and from the venue (at least an hour to Cambridge or Norwich, and almost no live music in King’s Lynn)
- a lack of people I know well enough to go to a gig with elsewhere (I could probably change this)
I could go and watch Herman’s Hermits, I guess?
2 a week is a nice time. Any more than that and it starts to get a bit tiring.

Yeah reckon I could do better if I lived in Dublin, there’s always a lot in Dublin I’m tempted by but only travel for a few of them. On the other hand Dublin rent would make it less affordable.
‘Joshua says it diversified over time into just about every genre, including metal, rock, reggae, and hip-hop’
Rock AND metal?!

Most of the performers i see are at festivals tbh
Probs go to 20-25 gigs a year and 5 or 6 small festivals plus one big summer festival
Very expensive hobby
In my early mid/early twenties I think I got up to around 2/3 a week? Became less of a thing when I took up other pastimes.
These days it’s more like 2/3 a month if that.
Joshua sounds like a right dweeb (no offence)
Turning up early and getting a good spot! What a nerd!

This lads just the only chump who paid Guinness enough to “verify” his record

Between 40-50 I think, plus around half a dozen club nights if that counts.
Amazing how far the stock of the Guinness World Record has fallen, reckon if I met someone who had one I’d probably just be a bit embarrassed for them.
Probably about 40 a year. Also usually do 1 or 2 camping festivals plus a couple of one day festivals, so total bands seen per year comes in at around 100 which I’m quite happy with.
Found my diaries earlier this year from the 00s and used to go to about 100 gigs per year…
Bet the hip hop gig was Limp Bizkit

yeah, this is ridiculous; “By the beginning of August, Joshua had already seen over 30 concerts.”, whoop de doo, one a week! “In the next five months, I saw a whopping 56 shows,”, that doesn’t qualify as “whopping” Joshua.

Does a festival count as 1 or do you count the sets you saw as a gig each?

I’d say for the purposes of the record they don’t count at all.
Oh no I’ve started to overthink this.

To be fair to him it probably does seem like more of an undertaking in America where everything is about a 45 minute drive from everything else, but trying to claim it’s a world record is proper brass neck behaviour.

He did see Rammstein, Tool and The Ocean which I can’t criticise him for, they’re ones I’d be happy seeing in a year tbh
