Manics still seem to get acclaim for recent albums but I just CBA.
And I’m someone who actually liked Lifeblood.
The National. I think I found the new album too boring and maybe listened to everything pre that too much? I’m sure it’ll come back around and I’ll love them again at some point, but for now I’m not fussed

By coincidence I dug Oh, Inverted World out over the weekend for the 1st time in years & absolutely loved it. Lost interest in them after the 3rd album.
I know why I stopped listening to the Shins - they stopped releasing good records (Chutes Too Narrow is their masterpiece and last listenable album)

Yeah, there’s a couple of ok songs on there, but for the most part it’s super bland and unremarkable. Such a disappointment. I know I had the fourth album, but I can’t remember a thing about it, not even the title.
Agree with this. Saw them live and was bored 10 minutes in. Barely listened to them since.

I think I only have two actual answers for this. Everyone else that almost fits (like Green Day and Jimmy Eat World for instance) technically has a reason, and it’s usually heard the new album or something from the new album and it made it clear immediately that they were done.
Getup Kids - I had loved Four Minute Mile, Something to Write Home About, and On a Wire (the latter of which has aged surprisingly well) but then I guess I kind of naturally assumed there was no reason to keep going despite not having heard anything off of the albums that followed.
The Shins - I never loved them the way other people did, but I liked the first two albums. I never felt the need to continue and have always sort of assumed they got really bland and boring.
RHCP might qualify for this list too given how much I liked Stadium Arcadium when it came out, but Frusciante leaving again (combined with Dani California and some more of the more semi-self-parody type songs on that album) signaled the end for me.

I quite liked Art Angels (took a bit of adjusting to, maybe?). The biggest surprise for me was when I went to see her live. So many teenagers (some of whom, I think, with accompanying parents), I felt so old.
Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Deerhunter seem to be bands where I associate them so strongly with a certain point in the past, where I haven’t felt so in the mood to check out their recenter stuff, just cause life’s changed. Nothing really to do with changes of quality (though they all released albums during a point when I was really miserable and not particularly responsive to music at all [which shifted around the time I first listened to Ekstasis by Julia Holter, autobiographical fact fans])

Not generally for no reason - is generally either because it is just stuff I listened to a long time ago and my tastes have gradually changed or in a handful of cases bands/artists who have released an album I hate so much it puts me off them completely.
Is occasionally something I stumble on and realise I haven’t actually listened to that artist for ages - just because too much music.

The music press is still covering almost anything Grimes does. Even small things like modeling for a fashion house. Her latest album Art Angels was her poppiest release so far and it surely annoyed many of her hipster fans. I’m sure she doesn’t miss those fans.
Yeah, I’ve probably pushed most bands that fall into this category out of my mind, but The Shins would definitely be there. It was probably helped by the fact that their gig at The Barrowlands was the most boring fucking gig I’ve ever been to though. Not the worst… Just boring.
I have a terrible habit of stopping with artists after they have been phenomenal. Not listened to or seen a thing from Flaming Lips since their just unbelievable gig at Bristol Academy in 2003.
