Later… with Jools Holland

Nick McCabe is so fucking good

This photo feels like it represents a lot: Jools looking unsure of himself, Scott dressed down with indoor shades, and a literal symbol of Britpop hanging in the void between them.

Both of these performances made me freeze when I saw them originally. Added poignance now.

The quintessial Jools experience though is just being exposed to something you wouldn’t have otherwise come across and going ‘holy shit’, e.g.

Also, surprised nobody’s mentioned Future Islands yet!

No mention of the arctic monkeys debuting as a load of scruffy teens with a :fire: performance

This was my fave bjork performance and fair play to the drummer for doing the bonkers parts live

Everything about this is great, obviously, but I especially like the bit when Paul Buchanan briefly turns into Nile Rogers then goes back to just holding that guitar like a prop.

Really got into that first Spinto Band album after seeing this.

Think the first one they had on the show was a quite dull rendition of “waiting” which I thought was a really odd choice. Hadn’t seen the video of what part of me

Jools is an absolutely awful presenter…the interview segments have always been an excruciating watch.

I remember recording this one on VHS tape along with some Eels performances too maybe.

Eels - Flyswatter
I loved the Daisies Of The Galaxy live era of Eels. So much fun.

I spent ages looking for this appearance yesterday, even going as far as to Google ‘eels jools Holland sandwich’

Another grunge one from me then

Always loved this one for Eddie having a little slow dance with Corrine Bailey Ray during the outro solo

Their previous performance was ace too.

I’m a sucker for anyone that interacts with the rest of the room.

There’s only a really hissy overplayed vhs copy of it on youtube these days, but Tindersticks in their golden days playing Talk To Me with an orchestra was another gem I remember.

Someone mentioned Radiohead up thread. The one that always stood out for me was Talk Show Host, they just kill it:

Great solo performance…and a special mention for the Joe Strummer shout-out at the end.
