What's good in... berlin

I’m going to Berlin next week, and basically haven’t planned anything yet. Does anyone have any recommendations? We’ll be staying in Friedrichshain if that means anything to anyone. I don’t think we’ll be doing any hardcore clubbing (my girlfriend has told me I’m not allowed to queue at Berghain and get turned away). I’d be interested in any museums about East Berlin or good galleries. Would there be anywhere good to eat also?

Has anyone visited the German lake district? Looking for a two centre holiday to combine with Berlin and note that Waren is only just over an hour north by ICE

Overseas travel plans

Quick review of Nuremberg, pretty good option for a long weekend visit - can do most of the sights in that time. Stayed just outside the old city walls (next to the railway museum) which was a good option - could walk anywhere in the old town within 20 minutes, and did a longer walk out to Zeppelinfeld which was just under an hour. Very Bavarian/traditional/conservative so not much chance to get into much trouble. Extremely quick and easy to get to and from the airport. Albrecht Drurer’s house/…

Lubeck is beautiful and peaceful, lovely old town, nice places to ride a bike, clean lakes to swim in. 1hr from Hamburg if you need a big city on hand.
