Let's talk about great Brazilian music

Heard this on the radio the other day

Bumping this thread because I’m listening to Azymuth and they’re bloody great.

Really enjoying this record from Marisa Monte, singer-songwriter of MPB pop.

My favourite Brazilian LP from last year

Kiko Dinucci, the guitarist from Meta Meta, playing music inspired by Baden Powell, Jorge Ben, Dorival Caymmi but with a modern freshness and energy

Also maybe my favourite sleeve of last year too

Just seen someone post this over on Twitter - my day made already. Colour footage of Gal Costa in 1970 (so just around her 2 amazing self titled albums) going about her day to two of her Caetano-penned songs and then a proper live freak-out version of Meu Nome e Gal  only got a handful of views somehow.

Good to see that Arthur Verocai is all over the new BADBADNOTGOOD album. Hopefully his work with them and Hiatus Kaiyote will turn others onto more of his other stuff, even if it is somewhat limited.

Absolutely, the self titled record is an all-time Brazilian masterpiece. Then you realise how many other all-timers he has been involved with as arranger…

Is there a list of stuff he’s worked on anywhere? His wiki is limited.

Cheers, just giving this album a go now!

Another thing (sorry, loads of posts in here today)

If anyone’s interested in some of the history and scenes in Brazilian music, there’s a great English language podcast called Brazuca Sounds I’d recommend

here or spotify etc

This is the opening track of a great album that came out at the end of September, a really solidly produced experimental rock album.

Ohhh that festival lineup looks amazing and I’ve never seen him. Sorry you had to miss that, but those guys are so youthful there’s gonna be more chances for sure
