I’m coming back down south to to take the TV to a show in London for her birthday later this month. She wants to go to London Zoo as well and I’m wondering if there’s anywhere or anything in between the two spots that people can recommend for us. I’d be tempted to walk beyond the theatre, over Waterloo Bridge and mooch around South Bank until the show but I’m open to other suggestions.
Provided it’s a clear day, you’ll get a lovely view over central London from Primrose Hill, which is next to the Zoo. From there you can walk to Chalk Farm Underground station to take you to Charing Cross.
For a longer walk, Regents Park is also bordering the Zoo. Once you’ve crossed that you can saunter via Fitzrovia, Soho, Chinatown and Trafalgar Square to the Savoy theatre.
If you want to go on a proper long walk, you can follow the Regents Canal to Kings Cross, Islington or even as far as Victoria Park. Depending on how far you go you’ll have to jump on the Underground or a bus in order to end up in the West End. But depending on where you are, it won’t take very long (10 mins from Kings Cross, 20 mins from Islington’s Angel, 35 mins from Victoria Park).
I would allow a full day for London Zoo, even if you’re going on a weekday in term time. There’s loads to see and do there.
I’d probably just head into town afterwards for a pre-theatre meal deal at Lima Floral.
You couldn’t have planned this better. Both Spearmint Rhino and M&Ms World lie on the route between the zoo and The Savoy.
Would probably skip both The Savoy Theatre and London Zoo and just spend the whole day at The Mound tbh tbf…
It proved too popular unfortunately so we removed it to give other attractions a chance.
