Imho ridiculously broad sweeping statement alert, but for how talented they all are and how many great songs they’ve done, there aren’t all that many great albums between the three of them
(Which is fine ofc, not like there’s any other super groups doing it better than them!)
Really thought this would be the record where it all clicked for me…sadly I am also think it’s fairly light. I really like her voice, and some songs (Thumbs, Night Shift) are incredible…but none of her albums have properly grabbed me. I’m sure one day she’ll strike gold.
Probably going to get some hate for this opinion but it’s kind of reminding me of listening to The National these days… The songs just aren’t that exciting but it’s still nice to luxuriate in the voice.
Her voice sounds amazing on this record but for me too many of the songs are forgettable and the production just kinds of blands it all out. She’s always seemed really distinctive and unusual to me, but a lot of the songs on this album could be by a hundred other American female singer songwriters.
Absolutely nuts over this tbh, and also the lyrics are still really nice. I’m very taken with ‘if the devils in the details / god is in the gap between your teeth / you are doing the lord’s work every time you smile at me’
I feel like she hasn’t unleashed her big ol voice as much on here but she’s still fantastic
