Saw it last night and really enjoyed it, think it’s probably the best iteration of a Safdie bros film so far, but also would quite like them to try making a different film now
The ending didn’t really work for me, and I don’t really feel their films have much heart/point to them outside of ‘wow, this asshole is really making increasingly terrible decisions here’.
That’s kinda fine when it’s executed this well, but yeah, maybe harness the immense levels of skill involved throughout to create something a bit different/meaningful next time lads?

Fun time at the cinema I reckon, not as good as uncut gems but that’s fine.
Soundtrack was great throughout - really elevated it.
Made me want to play a game of table tennis 
“Somewhat exhausting maximalism” is the verdict. Chalamet goes all out for statue season. For better or worse, the whole film is Marty’s world (even Rachel’s attempt to con Ezra is rooted there) and we’re just passing through.
Nicely put. I know nothing about cinema (except that Feathers McGraw is the greatest/sexiest villain of all time) and I haven’t seen Uncut Gems, as a noob: this was an exhausting and chaotic watch but very entertaining. Never knew what was coming next, the nonstop shenanigans did get a little tiresome but it progressed past that just as I was at the complete end of my tether with Marty. could have lost 15 mins for sure though.
Chalamet was outstanding, I only thought about Club Chalamet once at the very beginning. I literally can’t see anything about him without thinking of her devotion so this really is very impressive work. Nice one Timmy.

Agree that the farcical elements worked better in Uncut Gems because of how they increased the tension, and also agree that the bath falling through the ceiling was amazing. Also agree that the soundtrack and score elevated it. Well done everyone 4⭐️

In Uncut Gems the tension is largely ratcheting up with every scene as it builds to a dramatic conclusion. Almost everything that happens sets up the stakes of Howie locked in with the loan sharks, Julia at the casino and Idina Menzel with the family.
In Marty Supreme the threat itself is more episodic - the dramatic tension of moments - a hustle gone wrong, a run in with the police at the park, are often resolved within the same scene rather than lingering further, with the Abel Ferrera stuff a very slight running thread but still resolved before the film’s conclusion.

I do feel Marty Supreme is more an out and out comedy than Uncut Gems though so I think you have to balance that tonal difference
