It should have autoclosed and had a new thread created when it reached 10000 posts, as described in this feature.
Could one of the @admins check what the auto close topics post count site setting is? The reason this feature was introduced was because of performance and functional issues with “megatopics” so it’s in the admin’s interest to keep this feature enabled.
If it’s set to the correct value, then this is a defect that needs further investigation and should be raised on Discourse Meta, but if it’s not, then this can be solved simply by setting the value.
Either way, it makes sense for an admin or one of the @moderators to lock that thread and create a part VI.
