Still listen to Lost Souls regularly and still love it

Not heard any of these, what a treasure trove of discovery

Haven’t thought about that Helicopter Girl album in a long time. Pretty sure I owned a copy, listened to it a bit at the time and now wouldn’t be able to tell you a single thing about it.

The Kathryn Williams and MJ Cole albums I still listen to regularly and love them both. Third choice between Leftfield and Doves.

The Great Eastern and Lost Souls two of the best albums of the 2000s

The infamous “music for bedwetters” year

I have voted for three albums and I stand by those three albums and my voting them for.

The Delgados’ The Great Eastern is one of my favourite albums. Best of the Mercury’s, thanks!

Wow. Had no idea MJ Cole was nominated. Yeh it’s that.

Electric Wizard (should have won) Broadcast and Super Furry Animals absolutely robbed this year.

Is it right that Kid A didn’t even get a nomination as well? Or did they ask not to be nominated or something?

The Heads and Mira Calix also put out awesome albums but guess they probably weren’t on the Mercury radar tbf.

Despite all that though, Doves, MJ Cole and Delgados all pretty solid choices

Don’t think it would’ve been released in time for the 2000 prize. Amnesiac was nominated the following year.

as mentioned above Kid A and Amnesiac were eligible for the 2001 prize (PJ Harvey’s first win) and they nominated Amnesiac

Lost Souls (the only Doves album that I like)

First time in ages there’s been an album I genuinely love on the shortlist, so my points go to Death In Vegas. Doves and Leftfield are very respectable entries as well

Lost Souls is everything I love about music in one album.

(Still not even Doves’ best album though) runs away

I’m here to bat for Kathryn Williams. Little Black Numbers is a gorgeous lofi acoustic record, and is my favourite album of hers.

Never seen her live, but would like to. Would heartily recommend. Get involved:

‘The Contino Sessions’ and ‘Lost Souls’ are solid gold classics. ‘Rhythm & Stealth’ was a good follow up but I don’t like it as much as ‘Leftism’.

How the hell did ‘Alone with Everybody’ get nominated? Very dull album.

Probably still my favourite of hers too, though I thought Night Drives her last album was superb and runs it pretty close. Also looking forward to the collaborative album with Withered Hand in April.
