This time it’s this year! 2023 when Ezra Collective won the mercury prize. But if you could pick a runner up, who would it be?
As always you have up to 3 votes!
Arctic Monkeys - The Car
Fred Again… - Actual Life 3 (January 1 - Sept 9 2022)
Don’t think I appreciated at the time how few of these I actually know properly, there’s quite a few of the previous years with these threads where I’ve known way more.
Feels like a decent balance with no obvious howlers (I don’t mind Fred Again), without there being any real knockout contenders. Even the Young Fathers one that will win this is decent rather than brilliant imo.
Of the ones that I know, only Shygirl clicked with me (though it really clicked, was one of my favourites of the year). I expect Lankum and Young Fathers to do well here though.
