Definitely up for this, saw them in Nov 23 without having heard a note of their music and was blown away, they’re some band live
Got Project House written all over these guys
This is really really good.
Outside of the singles, current highlights are Acid Rain and Poppy.
Thought his vocal performance across the record is so great.
From the Pitchfork thread
Anyway, everyone still loving this? I don’t think it drops in quality until Audience…but it then grinds right back into gear on Ring Road. Near perfect album.
I think it sounds like Nine Inch Nails fronted by the singer from Shudder to Think. Its good but not amazing. The pitchfork score is accurate.
Really hoping they get some more UK dates in soon. Saw them supporting Gilla Band having not heard of them before and they completely blew me away - what a frontman
It’s funny how you can often read the initial description of an album on their homepage, and just KNOW it’s going to be a 7.x for the actual review.
yeah I found the review quite odd - unexpected too after Cinderalla got BNT iirc.
I think the line in the review picking apart the small business owner line really overthought it - it’s not about tension between art and commerce, more that being a singer in a touring band makes for a weird double life. It’s not super deep
Connecting with this way more than I ever did Dogsbody
yeah same. I really enjoyed Dogsbody, but this one feels like a much more cohesive album in and of itself, whereas Dogsbody felt more like a great bunch of tracks together.
Poppy is one of my songs of the year; so good to sing along to
I feel like I finally had a more dedicated listen to Pirouette today, although it was my third listen. First one, I guess I was just taking it in although I didn’t have many distractions (walk in the park, I think). Second, I was in the car with my wife and there was intermittent conversation and lower volume. This morning, walk in the park, short drive to & from. Think it’s quite good and rivals the first album. My current standouts are Diva and Departures, probably Cinderella too. Don’t mind the slower songs at all, they add to the atmosphere. Felt the same about Dogsbody.
Really enjoying this. Big fan of these lads
Yeah this is great! I’d bought tickets for Glasgow just based on the live show before I’d heard this, but it’s excellent. They manage to make this sort of music just so much sexier than anyone else
They’re so much fun live
Stop! Still trying to figure out if I can see them and Jesus Lizard both in the same night. TOnight.
Oh just saw they’re playing here in October too, although a Tuesday it might be the compromise I need.
On a first listen, sounds like a massive step up tbh. Love the 5/4 guitars in Cinderella and great lyrics.
Much closer to what I was hoping the second ditz album would be like
