šŸŽ· Music League 8 - Uh oh league comes to town - Round 8 - Uptempo Melancholia šŸŽ·

Is this a serious post? I’ve spent the past 10 minutes pressing a space bar to my favourite songs to measure their BMP!

TBH, if there’s a risk that people think my song isn’t uptempo enough, I’ll be using the following website over all of your picks!

looking forward to load of BPM counts being left in the comment sections

127 BPM - must try harder!

I’m straight up not voting for anything under 200

Uptempo is something you know when you hear it, don’t consider it a bpm thing. Reggaeton always strikes me as quite uptempo but I don’t think it goes above 110bpm much.

and vice versa, wouldn’t call speedy trash metal upbeat either

gonna need someone to define the acceptable tempo ranges imo. Does Allegretto count, or are we talking strictly Allegro an beyond?

I’ve interpretated uptempo as a mood, ie upbeat. So danceable, sounds happy but with sad lyrics.

Waiting to be disqualified by the metronome crowd.

Oh deary me, to quote a swift Google search I managed to carry out all on my own, ā€œupbeat & uptempo are not synonymsā€

I get the feeling I’m going to barely have to spend any time listening to half of this playlist!!

Can I play please? Haven’t joined in since the early days but I;d like to listen to some music league, if i may.

……

No worries if not!!!

Can someone please think of the melancholia?!

In the same way Unfinished Sympathy is something like 120bpm, but doesn’t feel it all. I’m just going for the know it when I hear it approach, and nervously reassessing my own pick

True, but uptempo melancholia would be (according to a Google search) melancholia played with ā€œa fast or increased tempoā€.

So if we’re going down this route we need to establish a baseline tempo for melancholia against which we can judge the relative ā€œfastnessā€ or speed increase of the songs submitted.

This is my round, I’m basically just looking for melancholic songs that aren’t slow. It doesn’t have to be super fast or anything. If there were a ā€œsad songsā€ round most people’s first thought would be to pick something slow and quiet, so I’m basically just trying to eliminate those from the pool.

1979 is actually a perfect example. Just in case one of you is David Pajo:

Yep. Don’t worry about BPM.

So in this case, the hypothetical datum is relative only to other melancholia, rather than music in general? interesting.

You are very welcome!

That’s how I viewed it (and also seems to be @TAFH33 's intention).
