Latest song from Blur and it’s a lot of fun.
Guadeloupean Creole blues led by Snark Puppy’s Michael League.
Yosef Gutman & Lionel Loueke - Soul Song
Afro-Jewish jazz via New York, as South African bassist Gutman Levitt and Beninese guitarist Loueke round up to a quartet with piano and drums. Accomplished but not challenging stuff, sounds like it would be great weekend morning stuff.
Do Nothing - Snake Sideways
I don’t think there is anything on here which is better than rubbery bass and wonky swagger of “Lebron James” but we’ll see.
Kieran Hebden & William Tyler - Darkness, Darkness / No Services
Mr Four-Tet in the producers chair.
Galcher Lustwerk - LUSTWERK II
EP of edits and unreleased rarities from around 10 years ago when the 100% Galcher mix was establishing him as a big deal in the Deep House scene.
Saw these at krankenhaus last year and they were fantastic live. Looking forward to this. Thanks!
Klara Lewis & Nik Colk Void - Full-On
Oh I like this. Experimental industrial noise dance pop, or summat. 17 short tracks in this collaboration by these interesting artists. Quietus album of the week.
Was just writing this up with the same Quietus link! Agree this is sounding great.
I’d never heard of Joanna Sternberg before but this is really nice. FFO Neil Young & Daniel Johnston
Enjoying this a lot so far - really melodic which takes it away from some of the other sing-speak brooding post-punk we have at the moment
Getting some Vundabar from this, if anyone remembers them
The Japanese House has a new one today, really liked their debut.
Deep, soulful and sublime spiritual jazz from LA on Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records label.
The new NONE album is out today that I’ve been looking forward to, depressive BM
Plus new Vengeful Spectre, Chinese black metal
Bokoya & Gianni Brezzo - Minari
Instrumental jazz from a four-piece band from Cologne who describe themselves as “a four-headed human drum machine that play impro-vised beat music” citing Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient and Dub inspirations and Brezzo, who appears to be a fictional character representing another jazz and beat driven collective also from Cologne. The credits may be confusing but the vibes aren’t.
@Octobadger has spirited back to life in the new releases thread this week now that his recommendations will be lost in the time, like tears in the rain.
Debut solo album/mixtape from Tottenham drill rapper Bandokay (son of Mark Duggan) - quite long and not a lot of variation, but a good reflection of where the scene is at now. Lots of skittery percussion, chopped up vocal samples, some big name features.
MLDVA & Çınar Timur - MLDVA & Çınar Timur
Turkish psychedelic pop-rock debut via Krakow. For fans of Altin Gun.
The only two I’ve given any time to see “I have fought against it…” and the remix one, they’re both decent.
Where my fellow early 90’s indie fans at?
Good day for experimental metal (The Body, Divide & Dissolve). Just a shame it’s the middle of summer and i’m not in a metal mood in the slightest.
Loma Prieta – Last
Post-hardcore / Screamo
FFO Converge, Birds in row, Deathwish artists
