Sunn O))) - Sunn O)))
Drone stalwarts, with first album out via Sub Pop.
Blissed out chug from Indonesia, bit cosmische, bit indie dance, bit shoegaze.
Angine de Poitrine - Vol. II
Microtonal math rock from Quebec. The buzz band of the moment.
Wendy Eisenberg - Wendy Eisenberg
Everything Wendy Eisenberg does is either interesting or great or both in my opinion, whether it’s as part of Editrix or the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet or their solo stuff (or a bunch of other previous and current bands and collaborations). A pastoral country-folk sound on this solo album, with pedal steel and violin added to Eisenberg’s finger-picked guitar, and maintaining a touch of the weird and experimental that’s always part of Eisenberg’s work. Getting hopefully melancholy (or melancholically hopeful maybe) feelings from this album.
I will also be making some time today for:
Nightmares On Wax vs Adrian Sherwood - In A Space Outta Dub
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nightmares on Wax’s fifth album In a Space Outta Sound by joining forces with Adrian Sherwood for a dub makeover.
The Black Dog - Loud Ambient 2
Sheffield ambient techno sequel.
Grade 2 - Talk About It
The Isle Of Wight’s answer to Rancid, released on Tim Armstrong’s Hellcat Records.
Makthaverskan
Joyful gothy Swedish indie pop, what a beautiful band
LYR - Dark Sky Reservation
Third album from Simon Armitage, Patrick James Pearson and Richard Walters - Simon’s speaking poems and Richard’s nice voice singing songs about stars.
Deary - Birding
Debut album from UK dreampop shoegazey band.
Salim Nourallah - NOURALLAH
Americana, definite Wilco vibes.
Billy Fuller - Fragments
Bassist from Beak> with his debut solo album. Bass driven sci-fi grooves.
Bon Iver live album
Esther - The Mixed Feelings Mixtape
Singer from Stockholm, alt-pop, really nice voice/sound from the first two songs so far.
Hiding Places - The Secret to Good Living
Brooklyn based indie out on Keeled Scales. Smashing together college rock of Yo La Tengo, the warmth of the Microphones and elements of slowcore.
Glass and Bones by Makthaverskan
