New Releases 12 Aug 22

Their last two were pretty boring but the reviews for this one are good, so here’s hoping.

Yeah fingers crossed. I don’t know their stuff other than this and I’m not very well versed in post-rock so my quality filter for it probably isn’t great!

This is where I got into them.

This is heavier but really, really good.

Started laughing when the beat dropped on the second track. Album goes so hard.

It’s bloody great. so much fun. The second half of Bicstan when it goes full acid is brilliant. so many great mashup moments.

Had given up hope of him stringing together a whole really good album and tbh more or less assumed his moment had passed… so this is a very pleasant surprise. Easily the best record he’s made

Yeah I’ve been following him since his DJ Itchy and Heralds of Change days and thought he’d just drifted into making a few beats for US rappers and maybe the odd soundtrack and EP. Plus Lantern was such a disappointment. So really pleased he’s put together a really exciting LP.

Jane Doe Ensemble - The Corruption of What Cheer?

New York art-punk trio. Debut album, I think.

And the late entries are…

The Space Cadet Quintet - Exotic Sounds For A Brighter Tomorrow - LP - Electro Latin Hop
“With my brother’s jazz knowledge and engineering skills and my dad’s production and writing skills, I thought we could pay tribute while also creating something modern and different. The initial inspiration was those old lounge albums, but also things that don’t fit that tropical format, like Ennio Morricone soundtracks, 90s hip hop beats and electronica.”

Closed Circuits - The Electrical Sea - LP - Down Tempo Alt
From Chris Page “a musician and poet based in Portugal.” Nice dreamy deep bass pop with Nick Cave-esque vocals on top.

Darlene Shrugg - Darlene Shrugg - LP - Rock
Nice power rock album, full of catchy hits. FFO Screaming Females

Sounds like ridge racer type 4. good vibe

Derick Penrod - A Leaf Adrift

Psychedelic ambient drone folk. Checked it out because it was scoring very highly on rateyourmusic, and whilst I’ve concluded that was mostly from planted reviews from the artist’s mates, I did enjoy this nonetheless.

B. Fleischmann - Music For Shared Rooms

Enjoyable mixed bag of glitchy electronic mood pieces.
