Happy Stereolab Day! The Groop’s first album in 15 years.
Stereolab - Instant Holograms on Metal Film
Sports Team - Boys these Days
3rd album from these. Not heard much of them until late last year when they released a track celebrating the Suburu. Jangly, dancing tunes. Think a more loose Sam Fender and you’ll be nearly there.
Moontype - I Let the Wind Push Down On Me
Melancholy indie jams
Lindstrøm - Sirius Syntoms
Progressive electronic / modern disco. It’s been a while since I’ve heard any Lindstrøm music but this sounds reassuringly bright, warm and summery.
Home Is Where - Hunting Season
Melodic US emo. Their last record was one of my albums of the year, looking forward to giving this a spin.
FFO Joyce Manor, Jeff Rosenstock, Los Campesinos!
Charmer - Downpour
3rd album from 90s influenced emo band
Florry - Sounds Like…
Alt country rock band return with an album full of loose, southern fried country rock. I love 2023’s The Holey Bible, so expecting good things.
Sedona - Getting Into Heaven
LA based indie pop artist. Recalls female leads like Stevie Nicks. Nostalgic, hook filled, pop with a contemporary feel
As much as I’ve been looking forward to Stereolab’s return, I’ve been looking forwards to this one more: These New Puritans ‘Crooked Wing’.
For those who don’t know them, I’m not sure how to describe them - like later Talk Talk but sometimes with loud/martial drums?
Most Things - Bigtime
Slacker post-punk from London bass and drum duo.
Yugen Blakrok - The Illusion of Being
South African hip hop, mystic themes, sort of gloomy trip hoppy mood. Good for headphones walking around a city
Is this appearing on Apple for any one? Albums there but just the singles are playable.
Anyway…
Happy New Sparks album day. Album 28 from the most constantly creative duo in pop.
Ganavya - Nilam
New York-born, Tamil Nadu-raised singer. Merges Indian Classic, Spiritual Jazz, meditative soundscapes, and hypnotic vocals. Really enjoyed last year’s ‘Daughter of a Temple’ which was Gilles Peterson’s album of the year.
Ossuary - Abhorrent Worship
Debut LP for horrible death /doom mongers. Been around 10 years and released splits and EPs. Excellent band, have been waiting on this release.
Selma French - No Sign Of Rotten Leaves
Norweigan artist, really nice indie folk.
Jay-Jay Johanson - Backstage
Baroque baritone pop with slow beats, FFO Jens Lekman.
Karman Line Collective - To Be
Ambient/Drone featuring field recordings of bees buzzing processed through guitar pedals. Meadows is a beautiful track.
Recalls GYBE and Spiritualized in parts.
Bruce Springsteen - Land of Hope and Dreams
Live EP from his recent Manchester shows.
A few Rap/Hip-Hop albums/ep’s today
Crimeapple & DJ Skizz - Rose Gold
Crime back with DJ Skizz for the 4th or 5th time, every previous one has been solid, I’m expecting more of the same.
Boldy James & Your Boy Posca - Magnolia Leflore
Boldy’s 7th? release of 2025 it’s hard to keep up.
Outstraight & Verb T - Dual Odyssey
Verb teams up with Irish Hip Hop collective Outstraight, I’ve enjoyed all the singles so looking forward to this.
