Nintendo Switch 2

Have gone back to the challenge reworked levels in Advance Wars 2, going through to complete then with an S rating. Some of them are a bit infuriating, but slowly getting there.

I’ve hooked up my OLED Switch 1 to my Dad’s sports hole telly. I go round once a week, so it’s a handy thing to have there. I suspect it still might be my main long-distance travel option too, as its battery life is so much better than the Switch 2 (plus I’d much rather that got lost or broken than my new toy)

thinking about spending money despite using my OG Switch very infrequently…

Tony Hawks 3+4 is on sale at £24 down from the official price of £40

is it likely to be even cheaper in a Christmas sale or is that about the lowest we can expect for a while given that it was only released this year?

If you haven’t played Yoku’s Island Express then it’s currently £2.39 and an absolute delight.

It’s £19 at Currys if you can wait for delivery or pick up. It’s a code in a box game which is rubbish, but saves a fiver.

cheers, tho I am suspicious that they’ve managed to use the Switch 2 case as the picture for both the OG and Switch 2 listing…

but if I’m picking it up, then I guess would be easy to get them to give me the right version if they cocked it up

Oh I missed that, sorry. I think the code may download the correct version for your console but not 100% sure. I fear ive overcomplicated things!

Hey! You! Listen!

Metroid Prime reviews are out. Seems like it hasn’t quite landed the way we all hoped it would.

Getting an absolute rinsing by Nintendo standards

Yeah. I think hype and name basically add ~10 metacritic points.

The 8/10s sound about right. VGC and Eurogamer went 3/5 but they only gave Bananza 4/5.

Dan wrote a review for Giant Bomb and he loves it.

I’ll play it. Liked the others.

Find the comparison to Ocarina of Time in the Eurogamer review quite enticing

Had a torubled and long development cycle so not surprised its not apparently up to the usual Nintendo standard - I bet part of them wishes theyh never anounced it to begin with but they were desperate for the hardcroe crowd to come back to their platforms after the wii and wii u so I can see why they anounced it so early in development. No doubts it’ll likely be a fine game regardless mind

This is where I am on it. Never going to live up to the weight of expectations, but cool to have a big shiny single player game to get stuck into.

I’m off work Friday, so will probably pick it up and probably love it.

Yeah looking again the reviews are actually quite good and almost all say ‘its really good most the time’

The art design/direction looks stunning tbh.

Yeah, they can’t give it a 10 because it doesn’t do anything revolutionary, which by Nintendo standards is pretty disappointing. I get the impression it is very handholdy which puts me off in a big way. I remember Twightlight Princess just telling you the answer to every single puzzle without you asking and it sounds like it might be a similar ballpark. Suspect they are trying to on-load a new generation of kids rather than appeal to the kind of guy who wishes the platforming in Silksong was trickier. I say they should drop those kids on zebes with a pea shooter - worked for me.

I don’t really get why they went this way with MP4. Yeah, you could say they are trying to appeal to a new generation and that Metroid sales have never been great enough to justify the status quo. But that ignores the last two mainline 3D Zelda games. Both were a reaction to extreme hand holding. Both completely shun this and instead go the other way, allowing the gamer to figure things out for themselves for once. And they both sold gangbusters. Also, way more than older Zelda games sold. So why do this with Metroid? They’ve already proven it’s not necessary

I guess it’s the way Prime 3 was going so they felt the need to continue that? But it is a shame.
