Far too many to recount, especially since I started working for the BFI. I literally spend days on end at the NFT watching films from days of yore.
Seeing Yash Chopra’s Deewaar (1975) and Mike Nichols’ Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966) alongside Jafar Panahi’s new one next month as part of a triple header.
Saw Jaws at the cinema last month and it fucking ruled. Hoping to go and see Safe next month too.

Seen loads this year, including all the David Lynches (except Dune), Perfect Blue, Brokeback Mountain, and The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On (probably the biggest banger of a documentary I’ve ever seen).
Bristol’s got some great places that screen old films, not least the Cube Microplex that puts on some proper weird gems.

I feel lucky to live somewhere I can do this which has been far from the case in the past.
At my local cinema if they’re showing anything from Soviet Union or former Soviet countries I try to prioritise that.

Going to the cinema to watch older films is particularly good for long ones in my humble experience.

Extremely good but holy shit I wish I’d read some trigger warnings and psyched myself up beforehand. That was so intense, I very nearly bailed at one point.

Earlier on this year I watched Fanny and Alexander for the first time on the big screen and, due to the lack of distractions and the fully immersive nature of a cinema screen viewing, it was the first time that I felt that I truly appreciated it, fully understanding it as if it was a different film to the one I’d already seen on TV over the years a couple of times before.
Viva la cinema!

so it struck me while I was having shepherd’s pie and a think that black swan is extremely similar to perfect blue, and I thought maybe I’m just doing the millennial woman version of “getting a lot of boss baby vibes”, but I’ve googled it and I’m not the only one to notice
there’s two films, each of them heavily inspired by Kafka’s the double, and they’re each others’ fuckin double! how deep does it go?
I remember seeing the Director’s Cut on the big screen when it was first released (about 2005?) and it was incredible. Had seen the original VHS on various TV screen sizes over the years but was amazing to see and hear the familiar and the new.
A bit unsure about the new TV mini-series, but we’ll see.

F&A is probably my favourite film(?) ever. I’ve gotten into the tradition of watching the whole thing every year over Christmas, but have never had the chance to see it on the big screen - very jealous! Was it the full-length version in one sitting??
Darren Aronofsky bought the rights to use bits of Perfect Blue in Requiem for a Dream. So he’s a fan.
This is a short film on the PB director and well worth a watch. (You might know all this already)
