Think Pitchfork’s been genuinely great recently, found loads of great stuff through it and the reviews of stuff I knew already have been good.
Whenever the next one’s out by Shed Seven
I’ve kept going back to the site over the years mostly for Philip Sherburne, but yes, it has been strange and exciting to see some enthusiasm in Pitchfork’s writing and ratings, reminds me of why I started reading it in the first place. Less gatekeep vibes please!
That said, I strongly dislike that Joshua Minsoo Kim guy.
Fumed about it at the time. Got over it, will fume if anyone gives it album of the decade.
I think its the best album of the decade so far but does not deserve a 10.0 score and is certainly not the best album she has made. That would be “When the Pawn…”
Best LP of the decade but not 10/10? You’re a fierce critic!
Its not been a great decade for music.
Wild take.
Suspect at this point the 10 is the worst thing that could have happened to Fetch The Bolt Cutters, a great album that now nobody wants to listen to, so completely has it been overshadowed by the pedestal Pitchfork put it on.
I think any 10 that might be handed out from Pitchfork will overshadow an album in this online environment
shrugs I still love listening to it
(the best album of 2020 was Sawayama though)
Trail of Dead certainly agree with you.
I feel like this thread is the only place where I ever hear anyone mention the Pitchfork review score, but I know loads of people irl who just think it’s a great record… ![]()
Me too. And that’s all it has to be.
The “Greatest Album” Tournament group did the best album from the 2020s (so far) and Fetch the Bolt Cutters only lost out to Ants From Up There.
Quite rightly
BNM!
I thought it was a bit dull
