rnb & neo soul. rolling đŸŽ¶

Anyone listen to the new Adrian Younge album? Really good stuff from him as usual. Really powerful listen too.

Can we talk about classic soul and RnB in here? Or is there another thread for that? If not, I may make a thread for it.

I mean, I’m easy, but would definitely be up for / contribute to a classic soul discussion thread

this seems like a good enough thread for it but might want the OP @lwt to weigh in. they did say new or old, tho.

they seem like theyre having a good time. fun little retro throwback.

Proper late 60s/early 70s soul group vibe. Love it.

yeah sure go for it

new dawn richard is obv great. quite liking the joyce wrice album and claire renee and nick hakim / roy nathanson EPs too

what else has been good from this year that hasn’t been mentioned itt?

feels like those few years after black messiah came out (2015-2019) were an amazing era for alt rnb and then the last year and a bit there hasn’t been so much, dunno if that’s also me missing lots of stuff though

i like this a lot

New album out this week from this Maori-Scots singer, 70s influenced soul, sounds good to these ears on first spin.

trying to think of 2021 things

One of my favourite songs of the year so far. Little bit of play on 6music but don’t think she’s popped up on here yet. Genuinely wonderful. FFO of SZA, Janelle Monáe maybe

EP is very good too.

It came out today and then she went and had a baby

EP is really lovely too

Really enjoying the new Charlotte Day Wilson album. Keep Moving , Mountains (co-written by Babyface no less!) and Take Care of You (feat. Syd) are my early favourites, but it’s really solid throughout. Something about the mood and atmosphere of the album reminds me of Cleo Sol’s album last year, although their voices are very different.

Any other recent r&b / neo-soul I might have missed? I wasn’t really feeling the new Snoh Alegra but might need to give it a few more spins.
