Rolling Heavy Music Thread 2025

Thought I’d get this one going if nobody minds…

Anyone heard this album? Came out sort of mid-December but on first listen it’s pretty astonishing. Like a mixture of Blackwater Park-era Opeth, Gojira, Tesseract, Cult of Luna and Sigur Ros. The atmospheric bits are gorgeous, the heavy bits bone-crunching af. Loads of great riffs.

a lot of new to me stuff to investigate here

Somehow missed a new Corrupted release, although they have lost something since the lineup changes so not sure what to expect

did a Wintersun album actually come out this year, holy

The first new album of 2025 I’ve heard, I mentioned it in the releases thread on Friday but now I’ve given it a couple of listens I feel I should mention it in this here shiny new thread!

Highly anticipated since it was announced in December, the second Bloodbark release following their excellent debut “Bonebranches” back in 2018. Nature themed atmospheric black metal of the highest order!

Very impressed by this Múr record. Right up my alley.

Yeah I’m quite taken aback by how impressed I am by it. For a debut it’s remarkably assured; sounds like the kind of vision a band would have for their third or fourth album. Glad you’re enjoying it!

I like what I know a lot so plenty to check out otherwise for sure :+1:

That Tzompantli album was good fun had it on a few times recently

I’m yet to actually play it, but this came out on Friday.

Saw them last year and enjoyed it. Shouty death vibes.

Fully embracing 2025, I’ve been pretty much exclusively listening to Celtic Frost so far this year…

And in the dying days of 2024 I was blasting these guys.

Blackend, swirling, deathly stuff out of Germany. Really really like them.

The first track on that Mutagenic Host is pretty sick. Looking forward to listening fully.

New Triptykon album this year apparently…

Spinning it now. Very strong Monday morning music.

I know a few on this list and as @Caedus said what I know I really like, so need to check out some of the ones I don’t. Thoroughly enjoying this one from that category right now;

I also checked out that Wintersun album which I enjoyed and was about to buy but frankly €15 is a bit too steep for digital imo.

Only one from 2025 but still, new year’s off to a good start! :grinning:

I’ll give Uprising a go then, if it was a 3x instabuy!

It’s a more political side project of the main guy out of Waldgeflüster who I caught at Fortress fest last summer.

Nice! They are playing as part of this.

I heard a few tracks and then grabbed the whole discography on Bandcamp (and a patch).

Surprise cover version of Alice in Chains’ “Would?” closing out Uprising’s I.I album! Wasn’t expecting that!

that was one of the ones I did know! Only because the same person did an interview with him earlier in the year

Can also recommend the Vemod album off that list for some very good atmoblack. I tried the Tribulation album as well, and I liked it, but it has the problem that gothic metal pretty much always does for me (unless it’s by Paradise Lost), in that it is not goth enough for my icy black heart, and not metal enough for my banging head.
