he got lots of albums but no thread - lets change that
i only know a handful of tracks but like basically everything I’ve heard, and decided I should jump in. Anyone got any favs or good posts to make, please go right ahead
think Low Highway is my favourite album of his, slightly prefer his more mellow mature style although I also have Guitar Town and Exit 0 and they’re good too
this one’s good
obviously love the (proper) Galway Girl too
Big fan of the mini-doc of coked up Steve recording Johnny Come Lately.
Best non-Shane-fronted Pogues song.
went in with I Feel Alright based on some Reddit recs - saying he had a strong run of albums around this time
so far - very good!
I Feel Alright was used as the end of season montage song on the first season of The Wire. And obviously he did the theme for season 5. That’s all I know about Steve Earle.
Oh and I know Copperhead Road. He seems like a good guy, too. I would say a lot of his stuff is not for me, but it’s been a long time since i’ve listened to him. Maybe i’ll give him a listen later…
Archers of Loaf then Steve, i’m controlling your listening this week muahaha
he’s also in Heartworn Highways if that isn’t too obvious a thing to point out! never fails to make me smile this bit, imagine being at a hang like this
His acting was also pretty decent in the wire!
and some brilliant hair, the like of which we’ll never see again on screen i fear
Got such a great voice too. Conversations between him and Bubbs were lowkey some of the best parts of the show.
This is my favourite Steve Earle album
El Corazón is pretty good. I saw him once at the height of my alt country obsession circa early 2000s, it was one of the longest gigs I’ve ever been to (at least 2.5 hours) - there were lots of bikers looking like extras from Sons of Anarchy.
And he’s an Arsenal fan!
Haven’t been back to it in a long time but I really enjoyed Townes when it came out. It acted as my introduction to SE and TVZ.
love him. had a summer building a barn with my dad where we pretty much just listened to him and mariachi el bronx and sang along to them in the sunshine.
we didn’t know the lyrics properly and couldn’t parse a lot of them. just shouting SATDEROLERINDARNINDONYOULOVEMENOMORE along to hardcore troubadour and laughing. one of my all time best memories.
I’m pretty sure it was season 2 of The Wire…always loved the end of season montage!
