Only just recently discovered this record and WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD IT BEFORE?
I’m already a very big fan of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (granted the feel of this is a bit different) and Biosphere’s N-Plants has slight vibes of 76:14 but there must be shitloads of stuff I don’t know about so please list and describe them here, thanks.
Of course, 76:14 itself is also a 1994 album - @plasticniki if you’ll excuse the shameless plug, you should go and big it up in there, it’s had a couple of cursory mentions but was hoping someone would have something more to say about it!
When I finally heard Love on a Real Train it kind of dulled my love for 8:07/5:23 (Maiden Voyage) as it sounded pretty close to a cover version. But now I think it stands alone. It was always breathtakingly brilliant though.
76:14 is on my nomination shortlist for the 94 thread, just need to play it again a few times.
Agreed. I’ve always assumed it’s a lesser known TD track as it was on the Risky Business soundtrack and not a studio album.
For everything that 8:07/5:23 reinterpret from TD, Tom & Mark add loads of new ideas, lots of bottom end and even more wide-eyed wonder, IMO, and the progression across the 13 minutes is majestic.
I love Middleton & Pritchard. Loved their stuff from Reload days and was thrilled when GC gave them a bit of a spotlight. They went on such a journey through loads of different flavours of electronic music in the 90s, didn’t they?
Experimental techno/ambient with Reload
Ambient with GC’s 76:14
Drum & Bass with Link
Electro with Jedi Knights
Deep House with GC’s The Way/The Deep
Mainstream House with Cosmos (Tom anyway).
All between 92 and 99.
As for stuff that sounds like 76:14, Reload’s Le Soleil et la Mer is worth listening to. It could be Middleton/Pritchard’s best track, tbh.
