Stuff which sounds like Global Communication's 76:14, please

Only just recently discovered this record and WHY HAVEN’T I HEARD IT BEFORE?

I’m already a very big fan of Selected Ambient Works 85-92 (granted the feel of this is a bit different) and Biosphere’s N-Plants has slight vibes of 76:14 but there must be shitloads of stuff I don’t know about so please list and describe them here, thanks.

Same lads did Blood Music: Pentamerous Metamorphosis which is a remix of a Chapterhouse album and it’s fucking great.

Familiar with GAS?

Zauberberg or Königsforst might be up your street.

This was posted in the 1994 thread and is pretty similar. The Trance Europe Express compilations are worth a look too.

Of course, 76:14 itself is also a 1994 album - @plasticniki if you’ll excuse the shameless plug, you should go and big it up in there, it’s had a couple of cursory mentions but was hoping someone would have something more to say about it!

And Narkopop

Thankfully it doesn’t sound anything like the Chapterhouse album

Obvious suggestion is Future Sound of London - Lifeforms (but presumably you’ve already heard that)

I’d also highly recommend Deep Space Network - Big Rooms

Yeah, was super sceptical about it but it’s a great record.

Future Sound of London’s Lifeforms perhaps? Gotta love Vertical Pig:

Also 1994.

First AFX releases, such as Analogue Bubblebath, might be up your alley.

Tangerine Dream were apparently a big influence on Global Communication, particularly the Dream Sequence album.

Funnily enough only just discovered this album this morning! Really enjoyed it!

8:07 is basically a cover of Love On A Real Train

When I finally heard Love on a Real Train it kind of dulled my love for 8:07/5:23 (Maiden Voyage) as it sounded pretty close to a cover version. But now I think it stands alone. It was always breathtakingly brilliant though.

76:14 is on my nomination shortlist for the 94 thread, just need to play it again a few times.

Can totally understand why they did it, the original is such a fantastic track.

Agreed. I’ve always assumed it’s a lesser known TD track as it was on the Risky Business soundtrack and not a studio album.

For everything that 8:07/5:23 reinterpret from TD, Tom & Mark add loads of new ideas, lots of bottom end and even more wide-eyed wonder, IMO, and the progression across the 13 minutes is majestic.

I love Middleton & Pritchard. Loved their stuff from Reload days and was thrilled when GC gave them a bit of a spotlight. They went on such a journey through loads of different flavours of electronic music in the 90s, didn’t they?

Experimental techno/ambient with Reload
Ambient with GC’s 76:14
Drum & Bass with Link
Electro with Jedi Knights
Deep House with GC’s The Way/The Deep
Mainstream House with Cosmos (Tom anyway).

All between 92 and 99.

As for stuff that sounds like 76:14, Reload’s Le Soleil et la Mer is worth listening to. It could be Middleton/Pritchard’s best track, tbh.
