Sub-3.0 pitchfork reviews

Seem to recall that Eels get quite a kicking from them. Shootenanny is a 4.9 ffs

noooo! Not the buggmeister!!

The Get up kids score is a little harsh.

I mostly agree, although I loved their first three albums and think they’re all great. Especially Your Favorite Music, which is definitely one of my favo(u)rite albums. I remember getting so shocked and annoyed at that review way back at the time.
Looking at their reviews on Pitchfork now, they did get a few 6 and 7s, so there was a bit of like at times.

Not sure if they got any sub-3s, but Eels generally got some low reviews from them also, from what I can remember.

0.0 for zaireeka!

fo,m

I like the 0 for Zaireeka because who can be bothered to get four separate systems to play one album on!

Dear You is a 4/5 Pitchfork you bandwagon jumping fucks.

I’m no Placebo fan but I imagine this is incredibly unfair haha

They hate Eels with a passion for some reason, after giving End Times 3.9 and Tomorrow Morning 3.6, they didn’t even bother with the next two albums and then gave The Deconstruction a 3.

Only Sun Kil Moon album I like

A lot of Kozalek and Why? on there. Seems like if you’ve made really good music before, a mediocre album will get utterly trashed, while mediocre albums by mediocre artists will get a 5 or 6, seems a bit harsh.

No such thing as good music writing anyway, totally pointless endeavour

I read the Mission of Burma one quite recently actually and it’s scored lowly due to being a poorly thrown together compilation or something rather than the obviously brilliant music.

That NIN one :joy:

“It’s black. Pitch black. As black as your fucking soul! And I’m typing on this machine. This machine is grinding me down. I feel like a fucking machine! Grrrarrrgh!”

8: two Eels, two Lou Reed, Mars Volta, B&S, WITTR and Zaireeka. Frances the Mute is probably my least favourite of the bunch, but it’s a 5/10 at worst for me.

I own:

The Vines - Winning Days
I maintain that this was solid at the time and that some of it will still hold up.

Bell X1 - Flock
Loved this at the time but I’d probably find a lot of it very bland now. I did hear the opening track in a bar the other night for the first time in years and it still sounded like a bit of a banger though

The Fall - Ersatz GB
Definitely one of the weakest Fall efforts but still get a bit of fun out of it when I’m in a Fall mood.

Oasis - Heathen Chemistry
Yeah this one hasn’t aged well. Don’t mind some later Oasis but this one is mostly very shit in retrospect.

Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With the Arab Strap
I like the first two albums so bought a cheap copy of this in CEX once. It’s incredibly boring apart from like 2 or 3 songs.
