surprised to see the second Airport 5 album in there as the first one is decent, not heard this one though.
The Robert Pollard stage banter one at the very end of the list was actually awarded a simultaneous 0 and 10 apparently (though just shows up as 0 on the current site). haven’t heard the other Pollard album in the list either as there are too many of them.
Imagine Mark Kozelek got a semi when they compared his Modest Mouse album to “a man wrestling a grizzly bear” and the rest of the words dissipated into a beautiful blur before his eyes
The New Fellas

also spent a lot of time listening to The Hood Internet and not sure party mashups really deserve to be caught in Pitchfork’s crosshair
The Bravery! completely forgotten about the Bravery.
Would oddly enough go to bat for the two with the lowest scores; Mac Miller (rip) is an angel and they didn’t need to drag him like that. he went on to make some great music and was making way better stuff on mixtapes at the time too. there’s some genuinely nice atmospheric production on that LP too
and Pullhair Rubeye which is beautiful listened to un-reversed, think P4k were being sour sports for that one
pitchfork is obviously pretentious but it’s a fun gateway for debate eh. a good bad hot take can just remind you of how much you like/love something. was also fun to remember noah and the whale, towers of london and the bravery in 2019
Bet ‘sound wizard’ Steve Albini has never got bored with people mistakenly thinking he worked on Spiderland, given the lovely review he wrote about it.
Fair’s fair, some of these one line reviews are pretty funny. Although yes, I’ve had a fair few of these albums and they weren’t as monumentally bad as they’re making out. That’s p4k all over though, innit?
When she wrote for her uni paper she gave my band an incredibly harsh live review despite there clearly being sound problems. Always had a grudge against her for that.
Pitchfork had loads of absurd reviews like that in the late 90s/early 2000s - though I think a more recent B&S review suggested the current staff still didn’t like the album much. So they’re still crazy.
Yeah I think 0s and 10s fitted into their style back then, more declarative about what music was “good” and what was “bad”. Whereas now they try to see the value and the flaws in everything (for better and for worse)
Forgot how little they liked Ulver, I can see their reasoning (pompous black metal band decides they can do a better a version of a different genre with derivative results) but Perdition City wasn’t that bad.
Got a few of the obvious ones; The Fragile, Lateralus, Daft Club, I Get Wet.
Also have NON - Children Of The Black Sun, NIN - Things Falling Apart, and Flaming Lips - Zaireeka (!!!) which are all decent to good albums.
