I really really hope that we decide on a role for hero mo and keep him there. Canāt think being ping ponged from opening to tail and back again has done his batting or mental state any good at all.
I edited my point out when I realised Iād sorted my stats wrong but actually it still stands:

Third best test average in India of current players.
I think thereās also the factor of the bubbles to consider, and letting him have some time at home would probably leave him in a better state for the ODIs than having him sat around doing nothing ājust in caseā
Sibley looks so ill-equipped for playing spin in these conditions. Makes me think he should be a seam conditions specialist but they probably need to give him a chance to try and sort it out. Hopefully heās on the blower to Cook whoās stats in India are unreal.
Fair bit has happened in those intervening years since we toured there though.
Heās averaging 26 in tests since 2018 though, and youāre not going to find out if the current top 3 can play in India without doing it
I just think these conditions are where heās strongest. He looked very good in the first test, not like someone whoās ability to play test cricket had just evaporated.
I donāt really understand this. Is there a limit on overseas squads? Because thereās only 16 there, add Curran and Bairstow to make 18 and thatās still a sensible squad, surely? Especially during these Challenging Times (R)
And not even in the reserves? Must be more to it than they just donāt fancy either of them in India. Bairstow looked great in the first test, he must wonder whatās going on. I also prefer Woakes to Curran, but thatās an odd one too given how he was just opening the bowling. I guess I could go on cricinfo and actually find out whatās going onā¦
In other news, a 19 year old wicketkeeper batsman has bashed a century on debut for Afghanistan, opening the batting against Ireland. Looks like someone to keep an eye on.
I think itās just trying to keep squads to a minimum size because of the bubbles, him and Curran will be needed for the ODIs, so better they have some time off. I think they realise how hard it was for Leach over the summer
The reserves seem like mostly guys for the nets more than anything else
Yeah, Iāve read the story now and it makes sense. World T20 later in the year, lots of games, long tours, mental health, bubbles, JB understands his importance to white ball cricket, and so on. I will grudgingly allow the selectors a pass on this one, as long as they know Iām ready to pull out some very telling statistics from Statsguru at a momentās notice.
Heās still really good isnāt he.
Lyndon Hannibal is a great name
Already looks like itās going to be a exercise in trying to not flog him into the ground as the other bowlers get milked.
I think Shubman Gill might be my favourite name in sport. Superb.
Wish I could bring myself to live in the moment and not enjoy Leach and Bess getting pumped in this game, rather than thinking about what their figures are going to look like against India.
What a terrible review that was
Watson-esque
Theyāre doing OK. Itās a first day pitch in Galle, barely turning, a competent batting team ought to be milking all but the very best spinners on here. In the first innings at Galle spinners average over 40, even Herath averaged 44.
TMS tells me āthereās not much in the pitch for the spinnersā.
Embuldeniya 6-20 incomingā¦
