The 2024 Summer Wrestling Thread! (feat. G1 Climax! Summerslam! ALL IN! and More!)

Wait WHAT?!

Long term niggling injuries that just got too much by all accounts. I think they got aggravated in that dog pound match Aaron Henare nearly died in. God damn was that a stupid match.

Aye, I mean I loved it at the time but even then was thinking “mm are they taking this too far?”

She did an interview in the last few days that basically read as an “I’m available, come and get me” pitch to WWE, saying she wants to be a manager.

I have some safebruv T-shirts for sale

Absolutely bizarre couple of years for Miro isnt it? Vince dropped him, he spent a year moaning on Twitch, he turns up in AEW and has a couple of bangers but cant be booked in anything long term because he refuses to job, also is injured at least half the time.
Then gets in an angle centered arounding winning his wife back from Andrade, he does so and they celebrate. Then get shoot divorced and leave the company.

I enjoyed the whole God’s Favourite Champion run. Once he dropped the TNT title they had nothing for him though. AEW do struggle to book the big lads well. I mean on the one hand refusing to take losses is of course shitty - but on the other ‘would you like to reappear from nowhere and lose a Meat Battle Royale?’ doesn’t sound too enticing. Especially if you’re going to get paid either way.

Swerve v Okada and MJF v Ospreay tonight then, couple of casual moty contenders stacking up there.
Expecting Will to drop to MJF via shenanigans so he can win it again in Wembley, but we’ll see.

The real moment will be Storm and Mariah’s segment though, a real chance to build on the best women’s angle they’ve really done.

Also… maybe Ricochet…??

Really thought Will would’ve been going for the world title at Wembley.

Will’s choice wasn’t it by all accounts, according to what happened around Forbidden Door.
Feels very strange for a wrestler to pass up an opportunity to improve someone else’s title reign but it was a fucking cracker of a match.
That being said can only see Tony wanting to give him the big belt at Wembley so guess he’ll be waiting another year.

They’re determined to give Bryan a run before he’s done whether he wants one or not. Might have to do a Wembley Screwjob. Swerve taps, Bryan isn’t expecting it, next thing he knows he’s holding up the belt and spitting in TK’s face. That kind of thing.

What the fuck is he doing? just hot shotting two of his most anticipated matches, with no build and next to no promo, in front of next to no-one. Just why?

Have them on Dynamite by all means, but build to them a bit, announce them in advance and maybe he might actually sell some tickets for once, but no, 24 hours notice

Still, maybe the ratings will get back over 700k for a week, or meltzer will give them lots of stars :person_shrugging:

As long as the matches are enjoyable for me, watching for free on telly - it’s all good

Both matches were made last week on Dynamite. MJF and Ospreay have been circling each other since Forbidden Door and Swerve is fueding with the Elite. MJF and Ospreay have both had lengthy in ring segments cutting promos on each other over the past two weeks, with MJF challenging Ospreay for this week’s Dynamite. Swerve called out Okada last week.

Big matches to burn on a random Dynamite but they’re not coming out of nowhere

I’m more worried about Blood n Guts next week re giving matches away, considering Swerve especially (but also Okada and the Bucks) are in it and someone inevitably gets killed and sits at home for a few months every damn time.

Danielson is definitely going in as a CAN THEY CO-EXIST?! team AEW member, isn’t he? Put the house on him getting crocked.

“Aaah good, I see MJF/Ospreay are opening the show so I can just watch that and not be too tired at work tomorrow” - me, last night

Really hope they pop a rating for that and that Warner Bros add at least a couple of zeros to their next deal
