Still waiting for Season 5 to become available to Prime subscribers.

Have really enjoyed the first four. It might be ridiculous but it’s a really well done ridiculous. I find the depiction of the pain the two main characters experience to be a really hard watch at times, but that’s a compliment to how well it’s portrayed.

i got halfway through the first series and then stopped because it was kinda boring

Think the first season got better as it went, second season was better on the whole but introduced some crap subplots. Started s3 but it was just more of the same and got annoying.

Basically shoulda stuck to the spy shit and not tried to be the sopranos.

Anyone else still keeping up with S6?

t’s been a bit of bloodbath, hasn’t it! Loving how cases from seasons past are coming back to haunt the Jennings and that spy stuff is more central to each episode again
. Just watched episode seven
and FUCK it was so tense when Stan went snooping round the house - proper nail biting stuff there :grimacing:

Just finished the show this morning. Pretty much binged Season 6.

Thought it was a beautiful end to a show that walked a precarious tightrope throughout. For me the characters and the performances always prevented them falling into the ridiculous campiness that continuously threatened. Ultimately the show was about love, of country, family and friends and I thought it was pretty fucking wonderful.

Might be my favourite series of all time. Thought they stuck the landing in season 6 incredibly well.

I was pretty worried about the finale. There were so many ways to ruin it but yes they absolutely got it right.

They really did!

Spoilers:

I thought it was remarkable that they figured out a way to have all the Jennings face up to the consequences of their choices without killing off any of the characters or have them get caught. The bit when Paige gets off the train, oh man. That was perfect.

presuming this last season will be about the fall of berlin wall/soviet union? (have only seen half of season 1, got sidetracked but enjoyed)

We don’t quite get there.

If you liked the half of season 1 you’ve seen then keep going.

If you’re not put off by the fact that these characters clearly do the work of fifty real agents on their own, manage to pull off a stream of ludicrous disguises and somehow aren’t being exposed/killed every other week then this show might be for you.

What you get in return for your suspension of disbelief is beautifully written characters and an emotional depth that most TV shows can only dream of.

But be warned…it can be very, very sad at times. If you’re a little broken it can be a hard watch.

Agree with all of this. What starts out as a fun but silly spy caper becomes more and more invested in the characters and the toll it all takes on them as people. The spy situations are just as silly, but you get real payback and a sense of weight from it.

Love the shit disguises almost as much as the brilliance of the writing

Aye it was brilliant, wasn’t it? Wouldn’t mind giving the series a rewatch from the beginning actually.

Felt they wrapped the show up as neatly as they could all while without diminishing what came before it. Man, just remembering now how the Jennings last scene with Stan was overwhelmingly INTENSE! Also I’d never welled up whilst a U2 song has been playing before - Damn you Joe Weisberg!
