The Autumn 2024 Wrestling Thread! feat. Bad Blood & War Games! The End of Bryan Danielson?! & Wrestling's Coming Home?!

Welcome to The Final Countdown Graps Fans!

We find ourselves already in the final quarter of a pretty fantastic 2024, yet there is still plenty of great wrestling to come!

Just this upcoming week alone we have a massive show from each of the three major promotions so let’s do it to it!

WWE - Bad Blood (October 5th) & Survivor Series: War Games (November 30th)

We kick off this Saturday with the return of the “Bad(d) Blood” PPV, in which The Bloodline either gets buried or returns The Tribal Chief to the top of it, Dirty Dom is suspended in a cage and CM Punk and Drew presumably the blow off to their feud by tipping their hat to the match that started it all between Shawn and Taker at Badd Blood '98.

Here’s the full card:

1 Liv Morgan (c) (with “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio vs. Rhea Ripley Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
Mysterio will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage.
2 Damian Priest vs. Finn Bálor
3 CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Hell in a Cell match
4 Nia Jax (c) vs. Bayley Singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship
5 Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns vs. The Bloodline Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu (with Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa)

It should be a fun show, Nia Jax aside, as even the grudge match between Priest and Bálor shows much promise, let’s just hope Punk doesn’t die doing something stupid his body clearly cannot take anymore, eh? After that NXT will do their annual Halloween Havoc, while the main roster will do their bi-annual contractual trip to an oil state which no one will watch, before WAR GAMES!

AEW - WrestleDream (October 12th), Full Gear (November 23rd) & World’s End (December 28th)

Three big AEW shows to come (including one of their “big four” in Full Gear) but not a lot to report at the time of writing yet as to what to expect from them, beyond a Continental Classic which will culminate at World’s End, and of course, the impending climax to Bryan Danielson’s career.

Things will likely become clearer after Dynamite’s 5th anniversary show but Danielson is scheduled to defend his title and career ve Okada tonight, followed by Moxley next Saturday in his (effectively) hometown of Tacoma, Washington at Wrestledream:

On a personal note, very excited to see what Ospreay and Ricochet can produce a whole eight (8!!!) years after their internet breaking, game changing Battle of the Super Juniors match in 2016 which if you somehow have never seen would recommend looking at below as a comparison point:

NJPW - King Of Pro-Wrestling (October 14th) & Royal Quest IV (October 20th)

So, the big question over in Japan is, IS WRESTLING COMING HOME? Zack Sabre Jr cashes in his G1 Climax victory acquired title shot vs Naito at the historic Ryōgoku Kokugikan and promises to bring the title back with him to London a week later at Royal Quest where if successful, his first defence will come against previous year long champion SANADA.

Quite annoyed I’ve just realised this is taking place on a Monday and I’ve just swapped from Mondays off to Fridays so I’m going to have to desperately avoid spoilers on the 14th!

What are we all excited for as the nights get longer? See ya in the funny pages!

Bad Blood looks pretty good imo. Punk will beat Drew, reckon Rhea might win the title back, can’t decide whether Tiffy Time cashes in on Nia or Charlotte Flair comes back or both, Priest will beat Balor despite the rest of the Judgment Day getting involved and I genuinely couldn’t care less about the tag match. Men’s War Games will be Bloodline related I’d have thought unless they chuck the Wyatt Sicks in there (Alexa Bliss will be back soon too), women’s WG is harder to call; Damage Ctrl against Pure Fusion Collective ( :face_vomiting:) maybe?

In other news, there’ll be a new TNA champion by the end of October

Think Bronson Reed v Strowman might be the match of the year. You can keep Danielson and McGuinness rolling around on the mat and Pete Dunne trying to pull people’s fingers off, give me two massive lads chucking each other at the furniture please.

Yeah that seems to be the way it might be going. Would be pretty interesting to have him champion of both at the same time.

Absolutely mad that Ospreay and Ricochet match was 2016. What the hell.

In other news, that Hangman/Juice Robinson photo ffs

Wrestling!

Will try and catch Bad Blood. Surely Drew wins here? Long term better for him…not arsed about the Bloodline (sigh).

As for AEW, Dynamite tonight should be :fire:

Bloody love Phil

WWE to Netflix and AEW simultaneously showing on tv and streaming on HBO is the final nail in ratings discourse isn’t it? Good riddance but it does feel like the end of an era. I’m old.

Im fucking glad its over - wrestling behind cable/satellite subscriptions can do one. And the stupid school yard bollocks that goes along side it is toxic and lacks nuaince.

I have no romance attached to that bollocks

So I see NXT is reverting to the HHH vision and less of a developmental - great for bangers and it’ll probably be ‘must watch again’ as a result but hopefully the young talent dont get completely shafted from this as a developmental show deffo has its perks.

I’m glad they dropped the horrid 2.0 aesthetic

Looks like they’re scrapping Rampage too, must admit did enjoy rattling through it Saturday mornings in half an hr as there’s usually exactly 1 match of interest among the filler. But it’s for the best if they’re getting that third secret show, possibly on Fox.

They wont do away with development aspect of it, I think it’s just aesthetically changing back to the Trips era. Three of their current champs are developmental guys and the other two you could argue were far from the finished article when they arrived.

Danielson/Okada utterly slapped btw. Felt like having proper Okada back (eventually).
