The Big 2017 DIS forum user poll

Here’s the DIS forum user poll. What I need you to do is give your top five albums in this format:

  1. The artist who released your favourite album of 2017 - Name of album
  2. The artist who released your 2nd favourite album of 2017 - Name of album
  3. You get the idea
  4. etc
  5. The artist who released your 5th favourite album of 2017 - Name of album

Please use this format, anything else just makes my life more difficult than it needs to be. I will also only take the first list provided. So if you want to swap positions 2 and 3, and exchange the 5th one for something else that’s all fine, but it won’t be included in the results so try and get it right first time if you can.

It’s also better if all discussion goes somewhere else so this is just a thread lists. I’ll start another thread for AOTY discussions.

And at the start of January I’ll crunch the data and we can find out which albums DIS users really liked.

Here’s what happened in the last few years …

David Bowie was 2016:

In 2015 it was Sufjan:

And in 2014 it was Sun Kil Moon:

Excellent year, at least 20 stand-out records for me to choose from (and there’s still plenty I haven’t heard yet) that all easily could have got into the top 5, not often one gets such luxury.

  1. Protomartyr - Relatives in Descent
  2. Thundercat - Drunk
  3. Converge - The Dusk in Us
  4. Priests - Nothing Feels Natural
  5. Big Thief - Capacity

These 5 could be in any order, but what they hey. I’ve enjoyed a lot of albums this year, more than the average, but I think it is perhaps circumstance and the situations that these have soundtracked that have led them to making my top 5.

  1. The National - Sleep Well Beast
  2. Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life
  3. Post War Glamour Girls - Swan Songs
  4. Wolf Alice - Visions of a Life
  5. Phoebe Bridgers - Stranger in the Alps
  1. Big Thief - Capacity

Can’t think of any others.

  1. Lorde - Melodrama
  2. Charli XCX - Number 1 Angel
  3. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
  4. Los Campesinos! - Sick Scenes
  5. LCD Soundsystem - American Dream
