Those Damn Crows

No mention of blowing rooves off venues :x:
No mention of giving the music scene a kick up the arse :x:
No reference to their haircuts :x:

There’s something quite heartening about a band like this blowing up because it feels so parallel to what I listen to normally that I feel like I can’t judge it properly, so it just ends up being a “well, good for them!”.

This sort of earnest, stodgy rock music packs out festivals around Europe so it’s cool to see homegrown musicians be able to do it. Once you’re popular in that sort of world it seems like you can just make a living off it forever, really?

Bet they’re from Gosport or somewhere and not actually Deep South preacher men travelling rock n roll vagabonds at all

Christ

To be fair to them this kind of stuff is really popular. It’s like Euro power metal, there’s loads of it about and lots of people really like it, but it has absolutely no traction outside of those people

They’re Welsh so they must sound like a cross between Stereophonics, Manics, Lostprophets, Tom Jones, Charlotte Church and Shirley Bassey.

Alter Bridge are another band like this that are wildly popular and very muscular but astonishingly dull to listen to

Always something manly on the cover of albums like this. Trains, cars, light bulbs, or horse shoes

Aren’t Alter Bridge just popular because of the Creed connection though?

No idea

I never ever expected to read somebody mentioning Mongrel on the DIS boards, small world indeed!

I had a uni friend who was very into Black Stone Cherry, who are also very much One Of These Bands

Nah not really. There’s actually a strong argument that the Creed history damaged their potential in the US. They’re much bigger in the UK and Europe compared to North America, and Creed didn’t do much touring over here.

I was heavily into most of these bands as a teen, was at Black Stone Cherry’s first UK headline show, and even saw Creed on their recent tour. AMA I guess

The Alter Bridge singer was briefly touted (alongside Steven Tyler and Chris Cornell) to replace Robert Plant in a Led Zep reunion right? That’s all I know about them.

Yep. He’s actually got a really good voice to be fair, in that kind of wholesome, non-threatening uplifting way. Also fronts Slash’s solo band.

The Creed/Alter Bridge lead guitarist also has a solo project (Tremonti) where he alternates between pretty good chunky modern thrash with big choruses and terrible midtempo ballads with bigger choruses.

Hondo Maclean :metal:
