Water From Your Eyes

I might be a bit late to this one, but I’ve been really loving the advance songs of Water From Your Eyes from their upcoming album on August 22nd It’s A Beautiful Place. Life Signs in particular is absolutely scratching an itch I didn’t know I had

They seem like a band happy to go in whatever direction feels right to them in the moment. While Life Signs has math rock moments, you’ve also got Playing Classics which is a lo-fi dancefloor banger.

Water From Your Eyes have been described as alt pop, art rock, post punk, experimental pop, bedroom pop, synth pop, shoegaze and indie pop. They describe themselves as dance-punk. They have cited their influences as Ween, Scott Walker’s Climate of Hunter, and the paintings of Mark Rothko.

I had a listen to some of their earlier stuff, and was surprised to see they’ve got 5 previous albums already, with the last two released on Matador and Pitchfork giving 2023’s Everyone’s Crushed a solid 8.3.

Anyway, I wanted to make a thread for them because I like the cuts of their jib (cut of their jibs?).

Been on my to listen list for ages. Guess the new album on Friday will be a good place to start.

Best (my favourite) band around at the moment. No-one else is really trying.

Sort of band I should love on paper but they don’t really hit the spot for me

Get off the paper then beehive head

yeah Barley really hit for me last year, love how easily they switch things up - very unpredictable. This one is gorgeous

Nate is also in This is Lorelei for anyone who didn’t know, a lot less outright weird but equally happy to do fun genre shifts on a dime

Decent band, waiting for a classic from them.

Lendermans cover of the fella from these is obviously 10/10

Yeah, this is great. Nice one

This is really good so far. Think I’ll get much more enjoyment out of it than their last, which was good but lacking consistency. I was about to say that was my first WFYE album, but apparently I played All a Dance twice in 2018. Don’t remember it.

Yeah, digging this new album. This is the right kind of experimental indie rock and or pop/post punk weirdness that I like. Looking forward to going back and listening to their discography.

I see the fella is wearing a RHCP tee in their main pic on last.fm. That will surely upset some dissers.

Really enjoying the new album, lots of fun.

Just listening to their covers album. None of the covers are ground breaking or anything or even that different from the originals, but they’re good fun.

The cover of Steppin’ Out did just make me want to listen to the original, though

Didn’t know they had a covers album. Also didn’t know what that song was by name or who by, so looked it up. Instantly recognized of course, a forgotten classic I’ve added to my top tracks of 82 list.
