Just seen that there are three demos called ‘East Coast vs West Coast’, ‘Call The Police’ and ‘El presidente’ circulating. If anyone has them I’d appreciate a PM. Haven’t been on AllThingsWeezer in years so have gotten a bit behind on demo leaks.
Looks like their b-sides are getting a vinyl release for RSD. The leaked list on Reddit has something called ‘Dusty Gems’ which is name of the b-sides and rarities disc included with the Deluxe Edition of Blue. Really hope this is an expanded edition with the Pinkerton b-sides included.
Weezer know how to market, theyre on a 3rd popularity spike right now and riding it out
Guys, i dont think this os the dark album ribers promised #hottake
What i will say though is the production makes this a damn sight more tolerable than pacific daydreamim despite gping for the exact same vibe
Blargh. It’s fine, definitely better than Pacific Daydream but also very much Pacific Daydream 2. I really hate the spreadsheet lyric randomness. It was already a bit grating on White but on PD and this it’s awful.
Can’t Knock The Hustle and Zombie Bastards really stink up the first half but it’s relatively consistent from there. The two highlights for me are definitely Too Many Thoughts In My Head, Byzantine and then, weirdly, California Snow?? Can imagine California Snow being a Katy Perry song with a few tweaks. Also enjoy High as a Kite and Living in LA. Not sure any of them would make it on a to a best of Post-Pinkerton playlist.
The annoying thing is I already know I will listen to this for a week and then forget about it. White on the other hand was in regular rotation for about a year. I just don’t have interest in this Weezer sound, I want crunchy guitars.
The next two albums they’ve recording already sound a ton more interesting than this so I’m not feeling too dejected.
Cant Knock The Hustle has actually grown on me quite a lot. But yeah otherwise solid analysis
I see Laura Jane Grace gets a co-write credit for Byzantine.
Thought California Snow was pretty bad when it was released as a standalone single last year, but it’s probably the song on this record that I’d listen to again if I absolutely had to pick one. Writing this one off and moving on though - there’s really nothing for me here.
It’s closer to the good end than the Raditude end for me. But not a classic exactly.
Think this will sit firmly in the middle of the pack. Its got more punch than daydreamin thanks to better production (despite being the same style that killed the last album) and the songs arent as off putting as Raditudes. Couple of highs, nothing truely embarrasing but kind of bland. Basically this is Millenial Weezers green album
This is genuinely awful, haven’t managed to finish a full track yet.
As with the last album I am not going to listen to it
They’ve spelled Rivers’ name wrong on the CD sleeve. That’s kind of careless.
Best thing about this release is the fact they’ve used a quote from Matt Damon’s SNL sketch character on the hype sticker on the front cover.
Wouldn’t be surprised if this was some in-joke and done on purpose tbh. Classic Rivers.
Wish this version was on the album.
After a few listens , I think this album is pretty good. Tries a few different things , some work ,some don’t. Production is very slick, a little to slick on Living in LA that would be a lot better if it had the distortion of the live version. California Snow had really grown on me , as has Can’t knock the hustle.
Reckon you’ll still love it in 10/15 years?
