in terms of serious answers, quite a lot of the music i like is stuff that builds gradually (i guess a lot of it would broadly constitute post-rock/slow burning electronica) so the tracks are a bit longer then the ‘standard’ 3-4 minutes or so.

in that instance, i’d say 6 or 7 tracks of about between 5 and 8 or so minutes is plenty.

i tend to think that the old lp format’s 35-40 minutes is a pretty good length for an album overall

In the old days number of songs didn’t matter. If an album was slightly less than 45 minutes, it would be perfect for taping on one side of a C90.
