Young Fathers

Every time I hear In My View I become more convinced it’s one of my favourite songs I’ve ever heard

I love this.
I’m not one for pigeon-holing music, but I love how unclassifiable the album is. Is it hip hop? Soul? Maybe neither, maybe both.
It’s melodic and accessible, dark and abrasive, immediately catchy and interesting but rewards repeated listens too.

Weirdly I get a vampire weekend vibe from this (plus the aforementioned tvotr)

Love it

And I bloody love Vampire Weekend. But this doesn’t sound anything like them?

Riri is so fine

Yes! I hear this in a few songs as well, I thought it was just me.

The one that I can’t get out of my head every time I hear it is this bit:

reminding me of this bit:

Glad it’s not just me!!!

Just heard In My View this morning’s in Houston on influential/“tastemaker” radio station SiriusXMU and did a double take (not because it isn’t deserving - just the idea of a Scottish rap trio making waves in a big hip-hop city is amazing great to me). Hope this is the start of big things for them this side of the water

I kept getting stuck on the first half of the album since it’s so good, so just fully discovering the back half now. Border Girl (that bass!) into Holy Ghost is an amazing combo.

Alright, I’m ready to concede defeat. Where the hell is the download code???

Mine was a sticker stuck on the inside of the inner sleeve - it’s easier to see if you’ve got a torch on your phone or something, because it’s basically the same colour as the sleeve, but it’ll reflect the light of the torch.

Great, thanks man - I finally found it just after posting! If I hadn’t seen your post I’d have just assumed it was missing.

Looks like you’ve got the indies version which is at least in blue - I’ve got a black sticker on a black sleeve and label! I’d shone a torch in and couldn’t see anything, but then the light from outside hit at just the right angle. Fucking hell! :joy:

Still album of the year for me, just so full of space and feeling.

What’re they like live? Seeing them at a festival so might not be the ideal setting

They’re the best live act in the country imo.

They’re great, amazing energy. I’ve never seen them with live instrumentation (don’t know if this is a thing they have done/would do) but think it could lift them even higher

saw them at the barras a month or so ago and they were fucking awesome!

usually just live percussion and some synths and sequencers that are only used every now and then no?

yeah more or less; I mean it works as it is, I’d just be curious to see if the presence of live drumming etc. would elevate it or not, if you get me.
