You're in a music store, you've picked up a guitar to try it out, what song do you play first?

Stairway to Heaven or Smoke on the Water?

There was a bloke on repair shop last week who had snapped the neck on his guitar which was apparently the same model as Angus Young plays. When they gave it back to him I was really hoping he was going to play the intro to thunderstruck but instead he just did some bland busker nonsense and went on his way.

Disappointing.

I shut down and forget how to play music

Street Spirit.

Has been for 24 years. Can’t think of a single other song ever recorded when the occasion arises.

One time i played Scar Tissue straight after and just handed the guitar back and walked out.

Would visit again.

Amusing myself about trying out a BC Rich guitar and playing some Simon and Garfunkel on it

Very awkward having to explain that I can play guitar, but I absolutely cannot ‘shred’ or actually competently play in time to a metronome :grinning: I’m all over the place tempo wise

I think when I pick up any guitar I immediately default to either this

Or this

Woah, this is seriously the only piece of guitar music I can ever remember to play, even though I learnt it about 20 years ago.

The only songs I’ve ever learned have been for one-off covers gigs. I immediately forget them and never play them again once the gig is done, so would just self-consciously noodle around a bit and not meet anyone’s eyes.

For synthesizers, the answer is Insomnia by Faithless.
