It was alright.

The Jezabels - Prisoner
Rose Elinor Dougall - Stellular
The National - High Violet

The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
The Twilight Sad - Nobody Wants To Be Here And Nobody Wants To Leave
Hey Rosetta! - Seeds
City Calm Down - Echoes In Blues

Wolf Alice - Visions of A Life
kent - Tigerdrottningen
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
DMA’s - For Now

It came along at an “interesting” point in my life which adds to it, without going into too much detail. I wish there was more of his stuff with vocals (unless I am missing some), this seemed to be what a lot of people criticised but I loved it.

Feel a bit bad because there’s such a bias towards guitar-led, bloke-fronted bands, with some of the other genres only represented by the absolute undisputed titan albums, if you like, but I had to be honest with myself. Have never properly sat down and listened to Sufjan, Newsom and a couple of other ‘10’s favourites’ so the final list might have some newcomers but we’ll see!

Love a good list post, mmm.

I’ve gone for taking my top 5 from each year to give me my initial 50, and then to save going too crazy I’m basically just going to choose my fav from each year - unless there’s years where the best of 2016, say, is less good than the 2nd best of 2014.

If I don’t limit myself like that in some way I think I’ll go mad over this …

Top 10 is looking like this at the moment.

  1. Frank Ocean - Blonde
  2. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
  3. There Will Be Fireworks - The Dark, Dark Bright
  4. Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d. city

  7. Japandroids - Celebration Rock
  8. Grizzly Bear - Shields
  9. Burial - Kindred
  10. LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Been looking like this for a while and reckon this will be it come the end of the year but will hold off posting in the poll thread until nearer deadline day.

Public Strain by Women.

I’m not sure if these are necessarily my Top 4, but I think these are the only ones 100% guaranteed to be in my Top 10.

The Antlers - Burst Apart (2011)
Deafheaven - New Bermuda (2015)
Strange Ranger - Rot Forever (2016)
The National - Sleep Well Beast (2017)

As always I’m having trouble evaluating between strongest impact, best (if such a thing exists), and most listened to. For lists like this I’m usually heavily biased towards long, sad albums that I try to only listen to a few times a year, so a lot of the stuff I listen to regularly gets shut out. And then there are albums that I was completely obsessed with but at this point feel like they’re from a different life entirely (The Monitor, High Violet, Trouble Will Find Me, Wondrous Bughouse, Kveikur, etc.)

I feel very good about those four choices though, even though I’ve probably only listened to New Bermuda five or six times.

I too, enjoy the album Public Strain by Women.

I could probably listen to the outro of Eyesore forever and not get bored.

Enjoying this list and first time I’ve seen Cold Cold Heart mentioned in a while. Great record!

Thanks Cameron - glad you like the list (found it hard to be concise as I wanted); yes; its a very moving piece by Cold Cold Heart - I have Gideon Coe of 6 music to thank for discovering them. Also, I didn’t realise till after posting about them, but one of the band members is also a DiSser.

As a Primavera regular I thought I’d ask if you happened to see them at the 09’ edition… was a great set

Sleep well beast is a good pick - I found it somewhat overlooked in terms of its reception (as much as a National LP can be) but its a great LP - I meant to include on my longlist - along with Women’s Public Strain as Kallgeese mentionned.
