Pretty good weren’t they? Better Unplugged than Nirvana imo. Layne all time voice.
Yeah, they were pretty great. Was listening to Dirt the other day and it still sounds amazing. Love the way Layne and Jerry’s voices work together
Never thought Jerry got the credit he truly deserves as one of the greatest guitarists to pick up the instrument. Fabulous acoustic player on top of that loud crunch when they needed it.
You start with Rotten Apple you know you’re in for a treat.
Feels like the S/T album is kind of underrated. It’s just so relentlessly bleak, love how Jerry’s leads sort of hang over everything.
and that Unplugged performance of Sludge Factory, listen to his voice in the chorus
Sean Kinney a FANTASIC drummer btw.
That Frogs drumbeat is something else. An off-kilter hypnotic doom shuffle.
I know it’s probably their biggest tune, but how fucking good is No Excuses?
There’s just something about them for me. Maybe it’s the bleakness of where they grew up, the times in Seattle, Layne’s voice, Jerry’s perfect guitar follows, the pinnacle of great alt rock. So underrated in the rock and roll canon as @IWornMyElbows mentioned.
Not afraid to throw strings in their tunes either were they?
It’s really perfect. Love how it feels like the verses quietly escalate to the one after the solo. It really might be the best song from that entire scene.
Also, not Cantrell’s fault as he has an unreal voice, but just happens to be in a band with one of the best voices of all time. But man Jerry can sing as well.
I think the victim of many pretenders afterwards but it reminds me of random pub bands when I was first drinking
If you saw random pub bands who’s lead singer sounded like 1/1000th of Layne Staley’s voice, I’ll move to Cardiff tomorrow.
happy to lie to make this happen
just lots of copycats I think
