Alice in Chains

So good. So sad.

I listen to Dirt a lot

Can’t get into the others

Yeah great band. Unplugged, JOF and Sap are my go-to albums these days but really loved the ST album too back in the day. ‘Heaven beside you’. What a banger

Gonna listen today now

Obvious pick, but the best riff of the 90s. And that chorus will always give me chills. Incredible song

Would really benefit from some boogie woogie piano imo

Rain When I Die is an all time classic track.

I remember getting Dirt based on the cover only from one of those CD subscription clubs that were popular in the 90s. Blew my tiny mind.

Lanegan’s book gave a lot of insight about Layne and while it was incredibly sad and distressing there was a real joy to the way he wrote about his friend that sort of made Layne more of a person to me.
When i started listening to them i guess Layne was known to be this dark, strung out artist with this incredible voice, then he died. And well that, regretfully, was sort of the way it was for 25 years.
Not sure of my point but was glad to flesh him out a bit and listening to them since is definitely different now.

Still think about that Lanegan book a lot.

One of those guitar riffs that just feels instantly familiar

It was one of a bunch of cds that did the rounds at school borrowed from various mates older siblings - got Dirt, Superunknown and Troublegum taped (killing the music industry) in one night this way

bloody amazing band. All parts were essential and so good.

Only ever saw them on the first tour with the new chap and it was surprisingly great. Bought a tear to my eye when they had layne on the screen and played Black gives way to blue

Jar of Flies, Dirt, and S/T are all top top tier. Phenomenal records.

I was a huge AiC fan in the 90’s and they were my favourite grunge band for years. Find it much too dark too listen to now. Dirt was my fave though.

Yeah remember that comeback album was good might have a listen later, think new singer (William Duvall) did great

Had the MTV Unplugged album on this last week, still (probably) the best one. I don’t listen to them nearly as much these days but I really think of all the big grunge and grunge adjacent bands of the era, Alice In Chains sound the least dated; I reckon it’s the doomy/sludge metal aspect that has kept them relevant.
Jerry and Layne might have sung the saddest songs but their voices combined into a force for good.

Yes!

This album was an essential part of my later teenage years (post-nu metal) and I still listen to it quite often. Some tracks (e.g. Rooster) sound better to me on unplugged than in the studio.

Going to do a full relisten today of course…

Rooster is fucking brilliant isn’t it? The video is mint too.

Haha the balls on Pitchfork only giving Dirt 8.7 all these years later

Weird that this thread has just popped up. Literally have just watched a support act perform a song with a melody VERY similar to Nutshell. And now I want to listen to Jar Of Flies

Used to know a guy who would lie about being a roadie for Alice In Chains but they kicked him off their tourbus for being too cool or something to that effect. That’s all I know about them, sorry

Watching AIC videos. The Unplugged recording of Nutshell is a bit good innit
