Having not seen any of the other Marvel films (except Iron Man, GotG, and Thor Ragnarok), there were frequent points where I was confused (even though there’s a pretty simple core to the plot I could understand^). The example I cited to my friend on the way out was “there was a bit when Elizabeth Olsen just lasered that Darth Maul man in the head and started crying”.

Overall quite enjoyed it though; as a total novice, it could’ve done with being shorter - but I imagine, if you’re invested in the whole thing, then a lot of what I saw as a bit extraneous probably was fairly more meaningful.

Some other poignant realisations:

  • It was the most full I’ve seen a cinema in a long time. In contrast to seeing Ghost Stories the day before (in fairness mid-afternoon on a weekday) with four other people, two of whom wouldn’t shut up.
  • Hearing nerds making a point of laughing loudly at some of the in-jokes to show that they understand the reference (and they definitely did because at one point I heard someone say “Ha” as if it was a word) makes me now realise how tedious bedwetters like me sound when laughing at bits of Phantom Thread to show my understanding of the nuance and how it signifies humour etc
  • My friend was probably annoyed at me talking about all the non-Marvel characters I was excited about seeing in the film (including Batman, the Green Lantern, Mary Worth, and an imagined scene in which Marmaduke contracts rabies and rips Harvey Dent’s face off)

^ which plot is thusly: yer villain, who I am told is absolutely batshit in the comics but actually seems quite chill as a person and more likeable than many of the other characters because he isn’t road-testing his meme-ready quips all the time, has a glove that he wants to pimp out with magic rocks so he can murder everyone in the world. Yer heroes are all trying to stop him for various reasons while road-testing their meme-ready quips and occasional lapses into secondhand-Apatowian quasi-improv schtick (cough spiderman cough)

I’ve seen them all and I have no clue what they were doing in Edinburgh.

Whereas I was amused by the laminated sign “We will deep-fry your kebab for you”.

Really bugged me that Spiderman died so much slower than everyone else.

I thought this was alluded to with Scarlet Witch and Vison as lovers on the run and in hiding for the past two years.

Though I was confused how Cap knew they were in Edinburgh, under attack and required help. All other heroes-get-together scenes made sense from the plot or exposition.

They changed their minds three years ago? They’d only just done Age of Ultron at that point.

So basically Thanos causes the Rapture and retires to Hobbiton?

Just got back from seeing it. After having just sat through £100 million’s worth of special effects in two and a bit hours I’m feeling a bit dizzy.

Bits of it were good. Liked the weirdness of seeing them all having a big scrap in Edinburgh Waverly and smashing up a Pumpkin café.

Didn’t like how the baddies were basically a bunch of CGI goblins and a big purple man

What was the thingy at the very very end then? Calling
 calling
 and etc

Saw it in the cameo in Edinburgh, screen wasn’t even half full

LOVED the Edinburgh bits. Seeing them smashing up St Giles Cathedral and Waverley Station

Quite liked Thanos actually, yer man Brolin brought a good bit of gravity to it.

They did a decent job of keeping the pace with all the plots. Ending was to be expected but still a nice eerie gut punch.

Oh yeah so at the very start, are all the asgardian refugees and Korg already dead? :open_mouth:

Huh, apparently that wasn’t actually Hugo Weaving as Red Skull

Felt cheated out of ant-man and hawk-eye in the end

“I am groot”

“I am Steve Rogers”

Edinburgh!!! :european_castle:
RED SKULL :open_mouth:
Fury’s pager at the end :sunglasses:

I can’t believe we have to wait a year for more. And that they didn’t reveal the title at the end.
