I say all that to say that Benson Boone is horrible, just godawful, the kind of act that makes you wonder if this whole medium has been worth it. His main stage set, at 7 p.m. on Friday—a preposterous slot for him—was nine absolutely insipid originals that seem designed to soundtrack tearful front-facing confession videos followed by a galling (and inexplicably Brian May-assisted) cover of “Bohemian Rhapsody.” I didn’t love it.

If you change every mention of Benson Boone to Sir Keir Starmer it works quite well.

I’ve never heard his music but it’s very popular with old people in the shop

I’ve heard his song a few times and I cannot for the life of me tell you how it goes. To be that popular and that forgettable is an incredible feat.

Just listening to this. I’ve never heard it. But I feel like this sound is everywhere at the moment, and it sucks.

can he doing anything else

Second edit: just looking over this point and seeing that the joke has failed to work. Originally I had posted a picture of the popular piece of scientific combustion-based equipment, the “bunsen burner” and I then made a quick edit reading “edit: sorry I forgot to put my spectacles on this morning, my mistake” such as to play with the form of the forum post - utilising my ability (as poster) to edit and iterate upon my original posts, and your ability (as reader) to view past edits - and making this fundamental to the reading of the text. However, it appears that the image is no longer visible in the edit history thus rendering the post nonsensical

with all that said and done, if you’re interested - why not read up on the history of hypertext fiction? A thrilling medium rich with that sense of turn of the century possibility - of avenues (potentially liberatory) presented to us by technology that fell to the wayside in favour of corporate algorithms, which (as I have alluded to in previous posts) I suspect to be an experiment in psychological conditioning whereby each element of liberatory potential presented us to by the internet is systematically negated (freedom of information → an unparse-able sea of “content” and misinformation / democratisation of creativity through accessible or open-source tools → blackboxed AI functionality embedded in all software): Hypertext fiction - Wikipedia

I’m not familiar with his music. His name and face suggest a dastardly Wild West rail tycoon.

It’s just mid tempo ultra-clinical wallpaper pop but people seem to like that more than anything on here now so not sure why he’s getting such a kicking.
