Documental / Last One Laughing

All this talk of The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, but this is the best thing I’ve watched in the last year.

Anyone else seen it? It’s on Prime, and it’s basically 10 Japanese comedians trying to make each other laugh, while not laughing themselves. They each pay money to enter, the winner is the last one to laugh and takes all the money.

Sounds shit. Sounds like the comedy style wouldn’t translate over. Sounds like it wouldn’t be funny as it’s subtitled. Sounds like it’d be better if you knew who the hell any of the people were.

It’s brilliant.

3 seasons on Prime now. Watch it.

I’m not going to watch it. I don’t have Prime though.

I’m 2 eps in to this (season 1), about to start ep 3. It’s not laugh out loud funny for me (yet) but it’s a fantastic idea and is strangely compelling viewing.

Yes. There are bits that did make me laugh out loud, but mostly in Season 2. There’s a fantastic bit of a guy struggling not to laugh for about 30 seconds that I rewatched 4 or 5 times.

OK the bit with the Analympics has done me

Love this show. Really surprised the same format hasn’t been redone in other countries, as far as I know of).

Yes. We were discussing how it could work over here. Lends itself to being a Taskmaster style setup (Alex would be good at making it work, Greg would be a good ‘host’). Jack Dee would also be a good host.

On episode two. The random acts of violence are killing me

Absolutely incredible.

There’s an Australian version on Prime. Rebel Wilson hosts. Just starting now.

There’s a Mexican one on there too.

Cackled to myself seeing this word again

Yeah we’ve watched the Australian one, really enjoyed it. Didn’t get on with the Mexican one but I need to give it another go.

This seems like a fever dream now… I watched some of these when I was on paternity in the wee small hours.

Smashed the Aussie series, it’s hilarious. The paddling pool was a highlight. Loved how it descended into complete madness.

The last two were the right last two.

I love how every series of this reaches a point where it’s impossible for anyone to laugh.

Yeah definitely

I literally spat my tea out at one point with the final two or three, it was all descending into madness and Sam suddenly came out with ‘you know what was really sad? Hiroshima’. I’d last under two minutes in there.

And agreed, I’d be awful. I find totally unfunny things funny, so I’m off to a bad start.

I actually wrote a thing about this on my website, if anyone’s undecided.
