We did it!
So proud of you ![]()
Hope you had fun!
Ahhhh, you look so good! Can’t wait to hear about it!
In today’s session I was getting decently enough into rp mode, had one npc calling out to another, “Bernhard!” and somehow it was loud enough R heard it a couple rooms over while quiet enough to be so indistinct they thought I was calling their name
sorry buddy, I don’t think you’re one of the paladin’s dads, you can go back to what you were doing
G has just started DM-ing with some friends and I love that she’s getting into it. It gives my mum a chance to break out the joke she made when I was a teenager trying to explain it to her, “…ok, so I’ve been in the dungeon, where is the gift shop”
Quickly men…
Home-brewing an item that will be a magic box of props for a theatre director guest character to find to the party. Want 20 items anywhere from basically useless to really powerful. The items disappear on a long rest and one use a day.
Some I’d thought of
Jacket with an infinite handkerchief on the pocket.
A door that you can open and see through the nearest actual door (even if closed).
A skull and crossbones bandana that sets an ability score to 25 but stops working the moment the wearer stops speaking like a pirate.
A silly moustache that allows for unlimited Alter Self but the moustache always remains.
Any ideas?
An “Alas, Poor Yorick” skull that when asked can detect any ghouls / undead in 60ft (and maybe for flavour how they were killed originally), maybe answers in a very hammy theatre voice
Also phantom of the opera mask that can give someone a thundering organ intro whenever they enter a room while wearing.
Yessss
A giant comedy saw that cuts something in half but returns them to one after [time period]?
Prop knife that can be used to cast Feign Death (with or without copious amounts of magical stage blood)
Omg yes
A window frame they can put on any wall and immediately create a window to see through.
That would have been much better than the door but they pulled the door out in the session so I can’t retcon it ![]()
A set of horse armour - on examination won’t fit any shape horse the party have seen but looks like two humanoids could wear it no problem, though visibility for the one at the back is zero.
+5 back kick, though.
+10 to performance to both parties while wearing.
Inverse of that being a pair of coconut shells that increases the parties travel speed to the equivalent of being on horseback, if they pass a performance check for convincingly mimicking horses hooves.
So, we’re fighting a lich and we’re 16th level.
The decision was made that I would cast my Antimagic Field and we would attempt to beat him up because we have an artefact weapon and artefacts and effects caused by a deity aren’t affected by the field. Obviously it hasn’t really worked out too well: the Lich’s hand to hand attacks are utterly vicious and since most monster stuff aren’t generally magical effects, while we’ve nerfed any of his spells, without the magic additions to our armour I’m not sure how long we’ll hold out.
Anyway, the deity thing did make us check stuff: Channel Divinity’s wording is specifically that it creates a magical effect so that’s out. I did try to get my Divine Strike to work but the DM said he thought that was against the spirit of the rules. I let it go but have since Googled and everything else seems to agree with me that because the wording never suggests it’s magic it should be allowed, so fingers crossed for when we go back into the fight.
One thing we did agree on after the fight was that a Monk (we don’t have one) can hit the Lich because his Ki is definitely non-magical, meaning at 16th level he can do up to 4 attacks at 1d8 + bonus each because they are counting as magical fists. Neat.
Anyway, it doesn’t seem like a long-term plan given how beat up we already are!
Does it have a phylactery? I had an absolute bastard of a lich on our path in our last campaign (we’d stolen a powerful amulet of his tbf), he killed a player outright with Disintegration, would send us literal hate mail with terrible handwriting etc. We could never best him in outright combat so it became an issue of finding his phylacteries and destroying them.
If there’s no other way the best things to focus on are it’s low HP/AC and buffing your characters if possible outside the antimagic field. He’ll end up resurrecting once you beat him ofc, but lich’s gonna lich.
We’re doing Vecna Eve of Ruin so the most non-spoiler thing I can say is it’s probably not going to be important but yes we will consider that.
