Rob Auton — Jupiter. Beautiful, strange, funny, life affirming storytelling about appreciating the world

Creepy Boys — Slugs. Absolutely deranged, very much an ideal Fringe show. A show about nothing, that keeps accidentally becomes a show about something. Not for the faint of heart, but genuinely incredible.

Fantastic but sold out:
Xhloe & Natasha — Bigfoot ripped my dog in half I saw it. Much less clown than I expected, much more physical theatre with very impressive staging and plotting, they do so much with just movement and lighting.
Good but sold out:
Foreplay — big hyped play, does what it does very well, but nothing especially new. Felt like a less good version of something Eliza Clarke would’ve written.
Generally just good:
Phil Wang — Uh Oh. Just solid standup! Nothing especially new or anything to write home about, but I had a nice time
Lilla Multipass: Woman, 33. Clown-ish show about a millennial woman and her therapist, worth seeing if you like the sound of it, not for you if you don’t like clown-related stuff and (optional) audience participation
Dune: The Musical. A man does a 1 hour long solo acoustic concept album, telling the story of Dune in character as Gurney Halleck. The songs are good, it whips through at a great page, the guy is extremely talented, great guitarist & singer. If you didn’t know the story you’d maybe be a little lost, but if the description appeals to you, I’d definitely recommend it, far better than something like this has any right to be

Tamsyn Kelly: good but not great stand up.
Rob Preston: Amazing Global Solutions: Excellent character comedy. Might not be quite as good if the person he brings up from the audience isn’t as lovely and funny as the random in our show.
Ate at Dumpling Queen. Had to queue for 20 minutes but sooo worth it.

Busy day today.
Depths of Wikipedia - simply excellent. Everyone should go and see it.
A simply beastly murder - Dick from the famous 5 has grown up to be a noir gumshoe. Good fun.
A Fox, A slipper and a Severed Head - A one woman play, telling a chinese folk tale inspired story. Really well done and recommended.
Steven Burns: alive - technically well done and quite moving show by a guy who got a job on a childrens tv show, and had to deal with rumours that he was dead.
Darkfields: Arcade - Worth it as a 2 for 1, but not full price. not as good as Flight and Seance remains the best one.
Xhloe and Natasha : Bigfoot - its good and i’ll recommend it, but it lacks the brutal emotional punch in the gut at the end of Letter to LBJ.
Mike Wozniak. - excellent, hilarious ramblings. A must see.

Richard Herring doing his podcast with Mark Thomas. - for just being two old lags reminiscing this was great. Never thought I’d hear Mark Thomas do 10 minutes on his love of kung fu movies and B movie cinema.
Target Market - has been selling out and getting decent reviews but i’d just say it was okay
Glad we only did it on 2 for 1.
Kevin Quantum - ok magic show, some good bits, but again, would have been annoyed if we’d not got 2 for 1.
Mythos Ragnarok - Utterly insane and absolutely bloody brilliant. This is now on my god tier Fringe list with Icehole, Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World and A letter to LBJ or god. Funny, clever, full on entertainment.

Had a nice day today.
Would recommend Chief Petty Officer by Vix Leyton, which is in a tiny room in West Nic Records, the bar under the Pear Tree / Counting House. It’s only on until Sunday I think. It’s basically a lecture about pettiness, with PowerPoints and graphs. She’s one of those naturally funny and charming people and the whole thing hangs together really well.
Ditto Eleanor Morton’s new show The Mermaid, which is very good. Not for fragile men, mind. I find it interesting how her standup shows are so different to the silly sketch comedy she’s made her name with online, she’s a really compelling storyteller as well as being quite good at accents and voices.
We also saw Police Cops, a very silly Naked Gun-esque play, and David O’Doherty, who was reliably David O’Doherty-y. An incredibly funny man.
Also bought a t-shirt from a pop up Li Jin Hao had organised

Aha excellent, I was planning on seeing it tomorrow so that’s good to have a recommendation
A mild warning, there are some use of slides / graphics so try not to sit right at the front (like we ended up) otherwise the stage decorations will block your view
Very handy advice as I tend to sit in the front for things (someone has to!)

We had this on the list but it didn’t work timings wise.
Had tickets to Kate Dolan at Monkey Barrel - got there in time, asked the guy in front of us if we were in the right queue & he said it was. Twist: it was the wrong queue & we didn’t realise until they started checking tickets for Paddy Young. By the time we realised we were 6 mins late for the show, which is apparently 1 minute over when they let latecomers in…
Moral of the story, don’t trust men I guess.
