Gaming 2021

Good luck with it. Bounced off that one so many times. Some of the puzzles are ridiculous. Has its perks though, just not up to snuff with 1-3.

Playing Assassins Creed Mordor II, very fetchy questy. Dunno what the story’s all about, some kind of buddy cop ghost elf thing. The nemesis system is pretty great, shame about the lawsuit that stops any other games using it. Enjoy its utilisation of the ps4 handset with its lights and goblin squeals.

Really liking Nioh 2. The systems bloat thing is absolutely a fair criticism but they’re all individually easy enough to use and low impact enough that I don’t feel like I’ll have fucked it by not optimising absolutely everything.

Dunno why people were on about it being too hard. It’s fine. Use the abilities the game gives you. Too easy, if anything.

Also earlier I got killed by a Medusa-type thing with ENORMOUS tits, which was… surprising, but on reflection (don’t) probably not the worst way to go.

A weird evenings work. Made a lot of headway but at times didn’t feel like it. Lost 30,000 echoes deep in the Forbidden Woods. Struggled to unlock the short cuts I know are there. Found an object presumably connected to a giant invisible hand that killed me. Died in a poisonous swamp. Also managed several lengthy suicide runs.

I set it to easy cause I can’t be fucked with awkward SH combat. It was always about the story for me. Re puzzles, I think I’ll be alright as long as I remember to not put that haunted doll in the cabinet.

Based on what I played so far, I love that opening dream sequence. The descriptions about him room being inaccurate that turn out to be false (there isn’t meant to be a record player where the TV is, there’s just a TV irl). Such a weird touch but one that gets that weird dream alienation across, Team Silent knew what they were on about

Still plodding away with rdr2. At this rate I’ll be playing it an hour or two a week for the rest of my life, but that’s fine tbh, it’s so relaxing (and easy?!) that I quite enjoy it.

In chapter 3 at the moment. Just saw some klan idiots in the woods and 2 of them set fire to themselves and then I shot the leader in the head, which felt pretty good.

Might pick it up again and force my way through it. Last time I attempted it, I had the flu. Could only get out of bed for a couple of hours at a time before I’d fall asleep or go dizzy.

Deciding to play that was a bad idea. Plus I was running it BC on 360 which makes people’s faces in the game tear apart.

Operation Backlog continues:

The Evil Within: had done the first chapter of this a few years ago and then…stopped playing? Did chapter 2 last night. Seems fine!

Started playing Hitman Absolution, cos I found I had it knocking around my game library, presumably from a games with gold years ago, then got Hitman 2 and a whole bunch of the dlc for £12 from the xbox store. So that’s my week sorted :+1:

I’ve been playing Hitman 3 a fair bit recently since that came out, but been going back and doing Hitman 1 and 2 levels as well. Sapienza looks lovely on PS5.

only done the first three levels on 3 so far but they’ve all been ace, Dartmoor has a really nice twist on things which I thought was good fun

Only played 30 mins of it and only just (fingers crossed) got the controls configured but it’s reminding me what I loved about SH that I haven’t got from modern horror games / Resi. It’s just so confident to go at its own weird pace and to use bits of sound design to guide you tensely through yr apartment, culminating in… your neighbour sweeping the floor in the corridor.

I remember loving that feeling of looking out the window and seeing ordinary lives going on outside while your room sinks deeper and deeper into strangeness. I think this’ll be one of those things where I have a realisation about just how influenced I have been by it

Final Fantasy 14 is available on a free trial up to level 60 at the moment. Really enjoying it!

Was initially put off by the MMO element of the game but it turns out you’re able to play solo through the quests and main story quite easily, and other players running around is more of a novelty. Will definitely be sticking with it to level 60 and then make a decision.

Anyone else playing / played this?

Yeah, it’s my favourite MMO ever I think. I don’t currently have a subscription because I’ve been playing other things but was active up through patch 5.2. I’ll resub for the next expansion at least, probably earlier when the mood takes me.

I’ve always liked small-medium group content best and being able to clear the latest raid content without having a fixed group is fantastic for me. I don’t try to do the hard mode raids but that’s fine. The end game gearing is also extremely friendly for doing content casually like this, because when a new patch is out, the dungeon content drops gear that is equivalent to the old entry level raid gear, so even if you’ve not been keeping up you just run that through group finder a few times and you’re good to enter the latest end game content.

Also the gathering and crafting side of it is brilliant. Actual ability rotations! Separate jobs for each! Actual crafting and gathering gear! So much more engaging than click to mine.

I’m not into the single player levelling-type stuff myself, but it’s clearly very well done.

Also my character is called Bumsnogger.

I find something kinda hilarious about having Crash Bandicoot 4 on Battle.net

Tell ya what I didn’t miss about Silent Hill 4

Those FUCKING escalator monsters, the ones that come out the wall and giz ya a slap

You have to be sort of dextrous and that to avoid getting slapped down the stairs, but it’s a Silent Hill game so you walk like a melting dog sculpted out of lumpy bad pudding

Tales From The Borderlands is coming back to storefronts next week after being taken down after all that nasty Telltale business

People should buy it - it’s not only the best Telltale game (yes its better than The Walking Dead/Wolf Among Us dont @ me) but it’s also the only Borderlands related thing which makes that universe interesting

I think the jrpg generator might be broken?

Bravely default!?

This. It’s fucking glorious. And I don’t even like Borderlands.

Still chugging on with the Angel of Darkness. In Prague, which is the last third of the game I believe.

Why am I putting myself through this? Idk. Feels like a stupid challenge worth taking.

And yes, it’s still terrible.
